Hey guys not in the best of moods thought id vent to you guys real quick. I sent my car in for starter /egr replacement. Guy takes it apart, intake manifold and throttle body are coated nice and thick in carbon...ok go ahead and take it off. need to replace more gaskets and tubing..ok go ahead. After all that the bill comes to a grand...I know its not actually too much for what hes doing but damn. now im broke.. and my mod money is quickly being flushed.. oh he's also re-polishing the intake manifold for me. HE said it should cause some HP gains and the car will run like new. sounds good to me. I guess theres a silver lining.

is that with parts? if so, that is a little too high, but then again, I dont know his labor rates . At least he's doing a port polish for you
labor ~ 400-500
starter ~ 150
EGR pipe ~ 150
Gaskets & tubing ~ 80

Learn, or learn as you try, to do your own work.
Seriously, most repairs only take simple tools, basic instructions (ala repair manual), and the ***** to try it. I wouldn't even DARE to own a used Lexus, Audi, or Porsche if I had to take it to a shop for every repair. Motor rebuild, tranny toast...ok, time to take it to the shop (and take out a second mortgage on the house), but EGR replacement, gaskets, seals, etc. are really all labor.
