hello all.

Me Dave from all the way from Christchurch, New Zealand.

Iv got my self a 1990 LS400.
well when i was considering buying it it seemed really fast and all with the 4litre v8, but i dont think its that fast. Was considering buying me some 20inch Avanti Dredds which would cost about NZD6g cause i wanna make it look low and stand out to the rest of the ricers out there. Its got a full body kit and yea. BUT. Since iv brought it i dont think its that fast. so... would anyone out there be able to tell me an average price it would cost to turn my v8 into a drifter? cause i always have loved to drift (cant so well in an auto aye?). I would turbo/twin turbo and manual the *****. any sugestions?

18's would be more appropriate for styling IMO. As for drifting, if you are willing to spend the money, anything can be possible. The LS/Celsior is a large heavy car and a 2 door coupe would lend itself for an easier conversion. What is the availability of after market parts and performance shops in NZ for the Celsior?

I'd have to agree with Mike on his response that you should consider getting a 2 door coupe if you want to get into drifting...preferably a mid engine or front mid engine car such as a Mazda RX-7, Nissan 240 SX, Toyota Corolla, etc. Like he said, anything is possible...if you have the money and driving skills, you probably could learn to drift your LS, but it wouldn't be a very practical/inexpensive platform for drifting. The only thing I can't agree with Mike on his suggestion for 18s. I think you should go with at least 19s since you have a body kit on your car.

yea, i used to drift a 1980 ae70 dx corolla sedan. that was mint but now i have more power and ****. you think a LS could be turned into a drifter if it is lightened? can you guys tell me the average weight of 1? i heard they were about 2.5 tonne. so many gadgets to get rid of. do any of you guys actually know someone that had turboed 1 or manualed 1?

The curb weight of a 1st gen LS is 3,858 lbs....basically 2 tons. Even if you gutted it out completely leaving just a seat and steering wheel, it would still be pretty heavy for a drift car. Members who have turboed their 1st gens are Lextreme and Retrodrive...and there is also another member who will be S/Cing his as soon as he stops being lazy.
