Default where to buy MAF sensor and TPS

My dealer told me that the 93LS needs a new Mass Air Flow, MAF sensor ($1300) and a TPS, throttle position sensor ($350).
I'd like to know if there is a website or another shop where I can find these parts cheaper.
any alternatives to getting a new MAF Sensor ?
thnx.

Get a price quote from http://www.irontoad.com , I bought my TPS from them and it was about $74.00 plus shipping. Here's my tutorial on how to install and adjust it: http://www.lexls.com/tps.html $350 for a TPS is horrible!

Check ebay or junkyards for a MAF sensor.

i checked ebay but didnt' find anything there. not much luck online either.
can someone please post a picture here.
I did read that before replacing the MAF sensor, it should be cleaned to see if that would make a difference.
has anyone tried cleaning it with carb. cleaner before ?

No, it's not suitable for Lexus LS400 89-94.

I did clean my throttle body with carb. cleaner.
I did clean also MAF with that ... and now it's defective (code 31).
I did reset that code also from ECU
(Plug is under steering wheel .. have short two wires I don't remember now which).

Did you try to reset that Air Flow error from ECU ? It does not go away by taking off the EFI fuse.

If you clean MAF be sure you can really use that cleaner for Karmen Votex type air flow sensor.

a MAF is hard to come by for the LS400, either your dealership is bull*****ing with you or you are one unlucky human being. Regardless, TPS is around $70 like the Earl! said, but check out junkyards please for the MAf. The price is outrageous for the MAF at the dealership

i'd rather use the luck on better things than the MAF
regardless, the ebay item that u've posted the link for, is that a direct OEM replacement for the 93LS ?

Well,
persian451..
I bought that MAF directly from turbosky (Matthew Funk)
Now he has only the body for turbo Supra Guys.
That is right part for you lexs400...
I checked from junkyards, there are tens of them in your country.

well my only concern with buying a used MAF is the condition that it would be in. there's no guarantee that the used one i get would be working or be in a better condition than the one I already have.
how do we check it's proper functionality before buying it ?
any tests ?

Here is one test (my "old" is ok with this test... but it is not working ok). But you could have some help with this test when buying old one and still there is a risk. There is another test also but I did not find it now (no time to search now). It does not help when buying separate part, because it was voltage testing when the part is installed.

Connections ohms Temperature (F)

THA &E2 10.000-20.000 4
-- ""-- 4000-7000 32
--""-- 2000-3000 68
--""-- 900-1300 104
--""-- 400-700 140

And the is also in tha MAF UNIT temperature sensor:
THA & E2 200-300 68

I did take that risk to buy old one, because new is in Finland 1200€.

could you please elaborate on that a little.
you mention the temp as well as the reistance.
do i need to check the resistance at that particular temprature ?
how do i make sure the temprature is reached before checking ? maybe i'm missing something here...

You got it right !
Well, that is why, it is hard to say is MAF working really okey.
You can check resistance in approx. 68F.
But it does only say is it totally broken or not.
For example when the temperature is rising MAF could give wrong resistance.
I'm not pro in these kind of things but I can read service manual.
Maybe somebody knows more about this problem and could give more information.
Here is theory how Lexus/Toyota type air flow sensor is working and how to measure... (Karmen Votex type):

awesome article !
it looks like the proper operation of the vortex type VAF that the LS400 has can be checked by using an oscilloscope and a device that would make air flow through it. apparently the operating temprature need not be of concern during this operation to check it's functionality.
I'll look more into it and also find out from the dealer how they came about knowing that it is not working corrcectly.

Matthew Funk From Okinawa, Japan did post my MAF on tuesday and today thursday I got it.
Installed already

Recommending Turbosky ebay seller.

My Lexus is now back to normal.
(code 31 after cleaning throttle body with cleaner and did clean with it the MAF)

Matthews deal was very cheap for me.
In Finland new MAF is 1200€.
Mathews MAF 50$ ja EMS postage 12$
TOTAL 62$.
This is my cheapest repair
