1996 ls400 motor swap or rebuild?
Honesty its my first lexus and first time Working on one.
Having that said, please help!
Quickest route to get my girl back on the road.
The radiator cracked and shot the coolant out and now I get code p0306. And I pulled the plug there is condensation. Tried a headgasket repair additive and no luck. Now I'm thinkin worst case scenario I need to change the head gasket on the passenger side or swap the motor. I have 189k on my current paperweight (motor) and here are my questions. Please help if u can:
First. Which would u recomend swap or headgasket set?
If I do a swap should I stick with 1uzfe? Or go 2uzfe? Or are there more possibilities out there?
If I do the rebuild should I just yank the head off swap the gaskets and slap her back together? Or recomend rebuilding the whole motor? I had the car a total of 6 months no issues till now. Any recommendations will help. Thanks for your time.

Like your style but I need cheap right now and I found a 1uzfe with a 1yr for 500. If I go 2j I need to get a trans too. And my funds are in the off season

Replacing the worn old engine with a fresh engine that has a warranty is always nice.Since you're just trying to get it back on the road I don't know why you would replace it with something different.
On a side note there are 5 speed swap options for the 1uz. And it's really not that bad of a job to do.

If you are talking cheapest and quickest, put the same engine in. A swap to something else is anything but cheap or fast.
These engines are very tough, have never heard of a head gasket failing. I would get it leak down tested to see if it really is shot.
If so, a top end rebuild would be cheapest and quickest. A replacement motor can be a gamble as you really don't know what has happened to it in it's past. You at least know a bit.
