Default Fastest you've gone?

I know this should be in the poll section, but I am particularly interested in LS400s. Whats the fastest you guys have gone in your car?? My car stopped at 151 against a Viper. All those risky cuts I made went down the drain when it became an open stretch of freeway... I kept up good in traffic though Oh and also how many times have you guys hit top speed?? For me I'd say about 12/13 times. Dont start frowning and all... Almost all of those were in the first yr I had the car. Im a safe driver now

Heres my 150mph story

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...a&pagenumber=1

Basically my Speedo showed 153mph and the car was still accelerating. Was it speedometer error or did I have a tail wind, I don't know. Trust me I am disappointed because I thought the Top Speed of my car was 149mph like Lexus says. I was waiting for the fuel cut-off to kick in but it never did. By 153 I figured it was time to back off and thank God for A. staying alive and B. for not getting a ticket. Well I'm still here but as I was slowing down a cop passed me going the opposite direction and clock me going 112mph and got a HUGE ticket. I was terrified of what speed she caught me at. I was sooo happy when it was only 112mph.

Wow horta, that 150 mph story is an amazing one. You are one very lucky dog (for getting off with just a speeding ticket) but also a bit foolish taking the LS out for some "fun" I know what you mean about the Florida highways and byways since my parents live in Orlando and I go down there once or twice a year.

I agree those LS400s are extremely fast on the highways. I would love to hear a top speed story from someone with an '01+ LS430

Thumbs up

I now live in Germany and acheieving speeds of 120-130 mph on a daily basis is normal and legal. I have had my 97 up to 155 on a stretch from Munich to Garmisch in the south. Nice piece of autobahn with very little traffic to interfere. I think I now have the answer to where I was suppposed to have been limited to, but that didn't happen. I guess I will conduct an experiment to find out if that was it, felt like I still had a little left, or...

Johnny

Well 155 makes sence. I kept pulling to 153 and it was not slowing down. I do not think I will be trying that again any time soon. I was very lucky that time.

Well let us know your results, just PLEAESE be very careful.

I know you said LS400 but in my 430 I hit 120 on the 110 Harbor fwy one early morning 2pm I thought and still believe someone was tailing/trailing following me. He was in some junky Astro van. It all started in Long Beach so by the time I took the 110 I was freaked out and just hit the gas, (partially empty fwy) and left'em in the dust for miles I'd say I kept that speed for about almost 3-4 mins I didn't care.

Safety is always at the forefront of my mind when driving at these speeds. I have a total of 8 years, off and on, driving experience in Europe and specifically Germany. You develop confindence in both your capabilities as a driver and your auto or, you don't go this fast. It is a bit overwhelming the first few times your on an autobahn but you do get used to it. Now I begin the process of insuring my car is capable of handling all the differant possibilities. I have already put on new euro spec brakes and rotors, new wheels and tires go on this week, and then I tackle the suspension. As I make progress I'm certain to post updates and include soome more of my adventures. There is nothing like being able to legally drive your LS the way it is capable of by design...

Default Dyno Pic

Don't have the link , but someone posted a pic of an older LS 400 doing 157 on a dyno. Not too surprising since there is no aerodynamic drag in that environment.

90? That's it?

In many areas that's the general flow of traffic. I often have
my cruise control set at about 90.

My highest speed was about 125 mph on the highway. Doesn't
feel as fast as it sounds in a LEX.

I don't know about legal guidelines in the US, but under European law, a new car's speedo is allowed to be up to 10% optimistic. So in theory, if your car's speedo is saying 153 mph, you could actually be doing just 138mph. I think there was a UK car magazine that measured the average "over reading" of speedos in brand new cars, and it was about 4-5%, even in prestige brands. Assuming a particular LS is optimistic at 10%, you would have to be driving at an indicated 170mph to hit the fuel cut off for 155mph. Given the 149mph restriction in US models, you might be able to go up to an indicated 165mph before fuel cut off.

Horta, this might explain why your model was still accelerating at an indicated 153mph.

Food for thought!

I don't know if the gadgets are available in the US, but there are several GPS linked speed camera detectors in the UK that sit on your dashboard and tell you your true MPH versus the speed limit for the road you are on.

Interesting, I have access to a couple differant types of GPS. I guess I will just have to try it out this weekend and report back.
