Default Steering system

I got a LS400 1992 with 60000 milles on it, great car. I send it over to a friends shop to have check plus I want to fix the most commun things that go bad on it.
As you can imagine I need to fix or replace the pump, same goes for the alternator, plus the rack an pinion is leaking, need some hoses too.
The hole system is out of the car already.
Fix the pump or just get a new one, or maybe rebuilt?.
Alternator, should I just get a new or maybe rebuilt?
The rack and pinion, does any one sells rebuilt units, it looks kind of expensivo.
I am gonna get new brakes while on the prosses.
Any Idea on prices, maybe an advice on good prices, nice dealer.
I know where to send the radio already.
Any other areas I should be awere of?

Thanks

I bought mine with 101k on it and had the same steering issues. I found a shop that resealed the pump and put new hoses on it for $400. As for the rack, mine had wear on it when I bought the car and I drove it another 50K with no problems. I say leave it alone.
The alternator problems may be caused indirectly by the power steering issues. If the resevoir leaks or if you spill some fluid while topping it up (something you have to do regularily) it goes straight on to the alternator. Car Quest sells an alternator for $250 + core charge, far cheaper than the dealer and they seem to be good quality.

Since you have a LS maybe you should post this in the LS section. Im sure they know more about your car than we do.
