1993 LS400 factory alarm problem
Hey everyone…
Quick question about a 1993 LS400’s factory installed alarm system. It’s an AUTO-MATE 6, by Directed Electronics.
It was valet parked the other day, and I noticed when I got home that the siren didn’t chirp when I locked it. Sometimes I accidentally hit the second button before the first and it silences it for that single command, but I couldn’t get it to chirp at all. I armed and disarmed it a bunch of times but no sound. The lights flashed accordingly, and my doors lock and unlock, but it won’t chirp. I know the alarm is disabling the ignition because I tested it. I armed it and opened the door through an open window. The lights started flashing like it was set off, but no siren. I tried starting it with the key, but she didn’t respond.
I have the worthless 6 page manual that came with it, but all it says is that there is a way to bypass the arming and disarming chirps permanently, but nothing about how to do it. Also, it doesn’t mention anything about silencing the alarm sounds permanently. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes, hoping it would reset the system. No luck.
I am positive I heard the valet set off my alarm when they were bringing back my car. I can only assume he had trouble turning it off and hit both buttons in some order to screw it up. Has ANYONE had this problem, or know how to fix it?
Thanks,
don

Just so you know, that's an aftermarket alarm system. There is no such thing as an OEM factory installed Automate alarm system from Lexus. The Lexus Dealership that sold the car had an outside company come and install the Automate alarm system for the person purchasing the car for an additional charge.
If the alarm goes off and:
1) Your lights flash...
2) Your ignition kill is working
but the siren isn't sounding it could be:
-A blown fuse for the siren. Check the wires that go to the siren to see if an "In Line Fuse" blew.
-Disconnected wires or a loose connection near the siren possibly.
-A bad siren.
-or as you stated, a programming feature.
