Default Fellas, educate me.

I'm a newbie to Lexus cars. Through life, I've personally owned (for a period of longer than a month) a 93 BMW 325i which was decently modified, a 95 Acura Legend sedan which was kept stock for daily driving. I've driven an 04 BMW 330ci and an 02 BMW X5 extensively, although I can't really claim ownership to either.

I'm looking into buying a LS400 as a daily driver. I know that with the 400s, there were pretty much three generations: 90 - 94, 95 - 97(ish), and 98(ish) - 01(ish).

Educate me regarding the rest. What would you personally get? Why?

I'll look to spend under $12,000 if possible...I can go higher but would prefer not to unless there is a great reason to.

Thanks.

For $12,000, you are limited to a high-mileage 1st or 2nd gen LS4. Use the Advanced Search at autotrader.com, specify the max amount you are willing to pay, search for all distance for cars with price only. My first Lexus was a pre-owned 93 LS4, traded it around 95K miles and not a single problem. If you want to have more HP, then you will have to spend more money for a 98 or newer LS4.

What did they change in 98? And how much more horsepower? I want to know if spending more is worth it .

I know I can find all these answers with Google, but I'm lazy and I'd rather trust ClubLexus members than someone who decides to make a page about cars.

This will give you all the info your asking for on the LS-400's.
It's from Lexus of the United Kingdom, other than some cosmetic differences it's pretty much the same specs as the U.S.A. for the most part.

Enjoy!

Default 90

I bought my 90 LS400 last summer with 117,000 miles for $4700 on ebay. Texas car. Excellent shape. That was slightly less than it was worth but I they're going for about $5000 now days. I couldn't be happier. Although I wish I had a 93 with bigger front brakes. It goes through pads like a mad *****. (*****s use pads too)

I've seen some 95s going for as low as $9,000.
