Default What makes the 92 SC400 1 second faster than the 92 LS400??SC400 is just 200lbs less.

To my understanding the 92 SC400 has 250hp/260tq and so does the 92 LS400.. I know that the coupe will be alittle faster than the 4 door because of the 2 less doors, could 2 less doors make the 1 second faster?... To my undertanding the SC runs 6.9-7.1 0-60 and the LS400 runs 7.9-8.0 0-60.

Do the SC have more power to the wheels? What else could be done to it to make it faster? Its only about 200lbs lighter than the LS.

Are the gear ratios/rear differentials the same on the SC and LS of the same year? A difference in gearing/diff ratios could definitely account for the higher 0-60.

Aerodynamics. Perhaps the Cd for the SC is lower than the LS! That will contribute to the difference. Also it could be the difference in the tyre diameter. But all things considered the tranny gear ratios is probably it.

Tranny gear ratios and aerodynamics.

I would say weight. From 0-60, aerodynamics really does not come into play.

About 3,500 lbs, vs about 3,800. I had my 1990 weighed at around 3,880. I had some extra things in there which probably added about 50 lbs.

According to Lextreme's data, the SC has a slightly different transmission (A341 and A340) but Intellexual reports A341 for the SC.

Gearing is probably the bigger factor, 3.91 (SC) vs 3.62 (LS)

3 major factors added up together contribute to the difference although I don't think your data is correct. The LS is NOT an 8 second car..

1. The SC is a lighter car.
2. The transmission and possible the rear end are geared differently
3. The SC has a less restrictive exhaust and less restrictive intake.

Thinking about all these major factors, it should make some people realize that simple mods don't make your car much faster, just look what Lexus had to do and in the end, the SC isn't much faster than the LS...

How fast is the 91 LS400 0-60 & 1/4 mile? Is an LS400 faster than the 91-95 Acura Legend 4dr and the 96 - Up Acura RL??

Default My guess

Aerodynamics would be a very small factor in a 0 to 60 scenario and the difference in drag coefficients between the two is negligible.

I'll bet that we will find that Lexus modified the Engine and Tranny's ECU settings to come up with the slight performance increase.

I can't speak on the RL, but as a former Legend owner, the Acura is quicker than the first gen LS. Not only is it quicker on paper, but the drive is much more exciting. Flooring my 91 Legend (auto) would chirp the tires as it shifted from first to second gear.

I do believe that the first Gen LS is an 8 second 0-60 car. Legend 7.4 seconds.

The LS is meant to be be smooth (which it is), so they probably never designed it with drag type acceralation in mind.
