With the engine running, put the mirror switch button to the "L" position, then engage the gear into "R" and see if BOTH mirrors tilt or not. I'd like to know what you find doing this simple test.
Works for me

Great ! Bunmango, do you mind telling us the specs on your '98 LS ? Does it have the wood-leather steering and shifter, Nav/HID, or Nak ? Just trying to find out if the mirror tilt-down feature came within a package on the '98, while it was standard on the '99.

Thanks

OK, let's do a simple test to confirm if your 1998 LS came with this feature:

With the engine running, put the mirror switch button to the "L" position, then engage the gear into "R" and see if BOTH mirrors tilt or not. I'd like to know what you find doing this simple test.
Just tried it and nothing moves on either mirror. Also tried it in the center postion and the left postion. Nothing, nada.

I really like this feature and was sad when I learned the 1998s didn't have it. I paid attention to every one of the 98s and 99s watching it work on the 99s and not on the 98s when I test drove them.

*my guess* since we have another 1998 owner that says it works on theirs is that somewhere near the end of the 1998 model year when they were prepping for the 1999s they added the new feature to the assembly line. Might also explain why they didn't all work as there were other changes that needed to be made to hook 'em up.

Edit - mine has wood wheel/shifter and navigation.

From what I can tell, our LS is pretty much a base model. It does however have HIDs. No wood/leather steering wheel/shifter, no navigation, no Nakamichi system. It was manufactured 6/98 if that matters. We are the second owners of this car.

Hi Dave:

It may well be as you surmised, i.e., date of manufacture for the '98. Bunmango's '98 was manufactured 06/98, my '99 was manufactured 10/98. When was yours ? That may well be the answer !

Thanks

Hey Guys

My 98 was bought in Jan of 98 and it has the reversing Mirror. So the build date guess is not it. Dave maybe your is just broken. I Hope not but maybe.

Honestly to my its no big deal I dont even use it. The car is awsome but that feature is not big deal to me. Maybe if both sides tilted like the 99s I might use it.

Default 1% probability

To Dave:

Did we find the 1% probability that yours may be disabled or not functional ?

Yep... like Horta's, my 98 LS has the passenger side mirror tilt down feature. Perusing http://www.lexus.com/cpo/model_detai...9.html#changes it appears that the 99 LS incorporated the driver's-side outside mirror tilt-down feature as well.

Ah.... just saw this has already been covered....

As for the 20" wheels I've been told it should'nt be a problem to put those on besides sacrificing the ride quality a little. I'm still a little worried about rubbing problems.........I hope it'll be ok . If anyone as experience with 20" wheels on their LS please post their experience.
Thanks.

By the way LordofCelsior told me that there is going to be a LS photo shoot .....who is attending?

Could you please post pictures of the car with the 20IN rims ? What brand are they ?

How about the ridse and tires ?

Thanks

Default Nice

Nice car. White wouldn't be my pick either, but the car looks immaculate and hey it's a LEXUS!
I bought a used LS 430 2001 recently and when I look at the 2nd generation I sometimes wonder why, as it's so good looking!

You will love the car I'm sure, as I love mine.

The white will probably pay off for you over time because it doesn't show the problems the darker colored cars do. Mine is midnight pine (which is by far my fav color), but it does need to be washed (and Zaino'd) frequently, so there are tradeoffs.

Enjoy

Guys, I have a 98 w/passenger side tilting mirror. Place it in the L position (mirror controls) and place it in Reverse.

FYI, mine was manufactured on 6/98.

EDIT: I also have a problem of the mirror not going exactly where it used to be after it tilts back. It goes a bit higher up. Anyone found a cure?

Mine also looses it "set" position ........ I end up haviing to lower it back to it's original postion .............. it only seems to happen occasionally though?
In the big scheme of things ........ I guess it's a very minor glitch?
