Default help, does this price seem right ?

Need some advice here....

My a/c compressor died, and so I bought a new one with the drier.
This mechanic which a friend hooked me up with wants to charge 700 bucks to replace the compressor, drier, evaporator, and a suction hose (which has a major hole in it). I'm providing the a/c compressor and drier so that's not included in the price. The above price is for labor, evap part, and some suction hose which has a hole in it.

Does this seem like a right price to you guys, or am I getting ripped off ?

This seems ball park, maybe a touch high to me

One tip...don't buy those "lifetime" guaranteed deals from the auto parts houses...they suck. I had several die. On my last one, I took it to my Toyota mechanic to inspect on what caused the failure. The wrong O rings had been installed along with a mis-fitted bearing. When it blew out, it sent alumnium shavings into the system killing most every part.

He thought the housing might be rebuildable but it was so out of spec, he told me there was no way it would last. He relayed he'd seen far too many like this and the rebuild quality was very poor. Had a factory new system installed and it was trouble free from then on.

On many cars the entire dash needs to come out to do the evaporator and that is an extensive undertaking.

My 93 Volvo 850 and my sister's 96 Honda Accord were each independently estimated at $1800 for the evaporator (and drier). If your car is set up like these, $700 for the evaporator, hose, evac/recharge and labor would be a bargain price.

There are more Lexus dealerships in TX than MN. You can call different dealerships to get an idea whether $700 is too much or about right.
