Default Help! STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSHING INSTALLATION.

As of this moment, I am in the middle of trying to install my front bushings and i got the rubber part of the old bushings off but there still is a metal ring pressed inside. Any ideas on how to get the outer metal ring off? I dont have a hydraulic press nor do i have access to one this weekend. The control arm is still on the car. I need my car back by monday. help please, thanks. Will.

Cool

In a pinch you can possible use a car jack to apply the force needed. Be very careful, as this is not what they are designed for, but it has worked for me in the past. Protect your eyes, fingers etc.

Thanks for the reply TOPLEXS. I thought of that too and i didnt have anything that was the correct size to wedge the piece out. Anyways, I had this guy come in with a press and we were able to get them off and the installation is finished. Thanks, Will.

Sorry, I know this is a little late.

But in the future, a good source of leverage like that is to use a C clamp.

You'll need to fiddle around a bit to figure out what to use as surfaces on the clamp, but I find them handy for a lot of small pressing problems.

Good Luck. Hope you're happy with the results.

Jimbus.

If all you needed, was the metal bushing of of the old part. You could heat it with a bernzomatic torch and knock it out.
