Taking of Exhaust Heat Sheilds ok?
Hey Guys,
I have recently taken off my 2 rear exhaust heat sheilds because they were rattling like CRAZY! Is this okay? Is there any type of fire hazard or negative effect to doing this?
Should I put them back on and just put up with the horrible rattling?
Thanks as always,
-Jason

If it were my car, I'd attempt a fix to eliminate the rattles. A rubber grommet, washers or just plain bending them from whatever may be touching them. On mine, there is like 2" of air space...so you are likely okay without them. Check the underside for any signs of heat damage though.

Last thing I would do is remove a heat shield. They are usually designed to prevent fires. Sometimes they are installed beneath the exhaust, to prevent starting a grass fire if you were to park off the pavement.
You could stop the rattling by wiring them on. A coat hanger would not be the best looking, however that seem to be the traditional fix. (Very un Lexus-like).
