Any recco's for some quality carpeted floor mats for the '95-'97?
Do the mats from the 98-00 fit too?

I'd like a carpeted mat but one with a rubber insert just under the pedals for the drivers side. That mat recieves the most abuse and subsequently, the rest are fine except that one.

Yes, the 99-00 mats will fit fine.
Why would you consider those since there the same construction style as the 95-97?

I was browsing a web site and they only listed taupe for the '95-97. Came to '98-'00 they had all the colors. I thought the floor area was the same and wanted to verify. In some ways, I wish I had a dark carpet so that dirt and such were not as easily seen. Seems each time I drive the car, I find a new mark on the mat. Drives me crazy.

If the 98-00 mats fit, there's one more option you could consider and I HIGHLY recommend it. Lexus(yeah from the dealer) sells plastic mats that go on top of your existing floor mats to help keep them clean. They are easy to clean, and fit perfectly. I, personally, don't like the way they look, but if dirt is your pet peeve, than these are your answer. These high quality mats will also take any punishment you can dish out. It's worth checking out. My father purchased them for his 99 LS and loves them, and he is a cheap SOB, so they can't be too expensive-- I'm guessing under $50

They fit right over the oem mats and provide good protection during inclement weather, especially for those with lighter, easily-soiled colors like Cashmere. Because the mats are clear, you still maintain the "look" of the factory interior. Finally, they are easily removable when not needed and cost is nominal - a set of two front mats was $38.00.

Here's my problem with plastic mats: In snowy weather, the snow comes off of your boots inside the car. Then it melts and the water has to go somewhere...it seeps under the plastic and get into the carpeting on the sides of the floor well. Even the rugged deep-groove mats that they sell will absorb the snow and only retain some of it for evaporation...the majority ends up running off somewhere (into your car).

My solution is think surplus carpet from a carpet store. I cut it with a razor blade by tracing the original mats. Then I install thick garbage bag material UNDER them. The result is that they absorb snow, the garbage bag prevents the water from seeping into the car carpet below, and the water in the mat evaporates fully. In BAD snowy weather you might have to take the mats out from time to time and let them dry. I stick them (mainly the driver's mat) in my furance room and they/it dries overnight. I only had to do that once this winter.

Plastic is not the answer.

With snow a rarity here in Atlanta, plastic has so far been an excellent answer. We had an inch or so of the white stuff a few days ago and there was no runoff under the mats. If there is surface water, an easy swipe with an absorbent towel eliminates the problem. For normal dry soiling conditions they do an admirable job of keeping the carpets clean.
