gold package passe??
First time poster here in a while. I used to be on a Lexus forum but can't remember if it was this one. Had a 90 LS a few months ago and am kicking myself for selling it.
Anyhow, I am looking at a 94 Anniversary edition, good looking car but I really don't care for the gold package. Am I alone on this? Too bling bling?? If I got the car would putting it back to chrome set me back much? Would the new black chrome emblems I saw at the dealer still work on a 1st gen LS? I would also have to redo the gold pinstriping. Maybe I should be looking for something other than a Anniversary edition.
Another question, what changed on the 95's? Are they considered 2nd gen?
Sorry for the questions, just getting my feet wet! (again!)

Any guesses on what wheels those are?

This car, a 94 anniversary model, is a weird color. Not really white, off white almost a primer look to it. Think it is Opalite or something. The guy said it is kind of chameleonlike, sometimes silver, sometimes white. I gave him an offer but he declined, maybe I'll let him sit over Xmas and see if it's still there. Strange though, anniversary of what ? They were out what, four years in 94?
I would really like to find a 95, don't they have a bigger back seat?

my 96 GS was navy blue and it came with gold letters, I ordered an entire chrome set from Carson Toyota.
Just my opinion, but the gold letters look like 10 gold chains on a hairy chest to me, kinda sleazy!!! LOL

You're not alone on the gold bling factor. I couldn't stand the gold on my '91, so I switched to chrome. A set of chrome emblems will run you around $75-$100 depending on where you get them from. Black chrome emblems were never made for the 1st gen LS. You could try to put black chrome emblems from another model, but it might not look right.
'95-'97 models are considered 2nd gen.
You should try a search for the differences among the gens as it has been discussed numerous times.

Oh well, and for the gold package, I love it, on a black car however (which all my new cars will be) we won't get the gold package because it would look real real awkward, almost as if someone wants to show off. The gold on white looks lovely however and I've gotten so many compliments on it and how this way it actually looks decent. My grill outlining however isn't gold, it's silver. When I get home I have a LX470 also with gold emblems. It's beige, and I also have a white one but I don't think it's clean enough so you can see the emblems.

I like the gold trim on the white cars. I really do not like the color of my car, so I guess the gold trim is OK. My grille is also gold, which I really do not like, but it is OK. I do not dislike it enough to change it.
The car that you see between the Lexus and the workshop is my daily driver- a GOLD 1992 Buick Park Avenue- at least it does not have the gold trim. I have seen gold cars, with gold trim and I think it looks strange.
