I had my car in for service at Lexus dealer today and they gave me 2000 LS 400 with 60K miles as the courtesy car.
Oh man, it runs a lot better than mine (91, 150K). The car feels a lot more solid, engine and trans are more responsive. I just love it.
Not much I can do about the engine & trans in my car but I guess I can replace engine mounts, shocks, bushings, control arms, and ball joints to make it feel like a new car again. Sounds like big bucks.

290HP in the 2000 LS certainly help to make it more responsive than the first gen LS. Motor Trend has obtained 1/4M in the high 14s for 98 LS. The 1/4M time for the first gen LS by the magazines are high 15s and low 16s.

That sounds very interesting. I never knew that dealers loaned out a courtesy car when they did work on older non-warranty cars. Did you have to pay any extra $$? What type of repairs was made? Sounds like it was a nice gesture though. You must have a very good dealer.

I took my 92 LS in to the dealer for the trans/diff/coolant service and a couple of other things. From this point I will do my own work, but I also wanted to see if I got a loaner. They gave me an IS300 (2001) for the day. Nice little car, but I wanted my LS back at the end of the day.
The dealer I bought the car from (different one) gave me a new ES300 to drive while they replaced the climate control as part of the purchase agreement. That was a nice car too, but I still like the LS better.
Of course they are hoping you will "see the light" and want to upgrade your car to a newer one. Nice try.

My Lexus dealer always gives me another Lexus as courtesy car regardless of type of repair. It's usually ES330, but I also got the RX300 one day and that was a disappointment. Their rates are reasonable at CAD 85 (about USD 65) / hour.

How about comfort? was the 2000 significantly more comfortable inside than your '91 or it wasn't even that noticable?

azari: If you include engine noise & responsiveness in the comfort equation then I'd say that the 2000 is a lot better than my 91. However, just the ride quality alone then my car is slightly better probably because of the tires (225/60 vs. 225/55 and H rated vs. V rated)
