Default Need help with the "beep" and remote entry

93 LS 4oo. Has anyone improved the sound of the beep when locking the car with the remote. I can't hear the sound when in a noisy area and have adjusted the volume as high as it will go. I wish the lights flashed so you could at least tell if the car is locked or not. I wondered if anyone has changed to a louder beeper or hooked the system up to the car horn.

Also the remote key does not always work the first time so sometimes I have to press the key button several time to lock or unlock the doors. I have changed the remote battery but that has not helped. I know this sounds like a minor problem but when you are standing at the car with an arm load of stuff in the pouring rain, its rather annoying.

I also think it is annoying- not knowing if it has locked-, but consider yourself lucky that yours even has a faint beep. Its even worse on the 1990 models. No noise at all, except the sound of the doors locking and unlocking. Perhaps the same deal with the 1991-92 models.

BTW- how do you "adjust" the volume? Is this something that is possibly turned all the way down on my car, or is it normal for the 90s with remote to have no sound when locking the doors with remote?

You can't "here" it huh?

lexusguy: I would suggest taking your car into a car audio shop and asking them to hook up the lights to go on with the remote/alarm or install a louder beeper.

Shaffer: '90-'92 models don't have the luxury of a beeping sound when locking/unlocking the doors.

Oh well- should have guessed. I guess that "beep" / "flashing lights" when security was activated was a little too advanced for the very early 1990s. Good that they figured it out just a couple of years later.

My old 1995 Chrysler had the horn beep when the doors was locked and security was set with the remote- but even on that car- the lights did not flash. I guess the flashing lights must not have came along on cars until the late 1990s. Perhaps some with the feature (flashing lights) in the early to mid 90s, but I am not sure.

Thanks for letting me know about it- or I would have been out there trying to get it to beep.

Thanks for the help Brian. I will take the car to a car audio shop and see what they can do about connecting the lights to the system.

On the '00 - '03 LS430, there is a volume **** waaay underneath the steering wheel, near the throttle pedal. You can adjust the "beep beep" locking / unlocking volume louder, softer, and even turn it off. Now mine is set on OFF.
Don't know if this feature is available on earlier models, but it's worth to search.

Sorry to revive this thread from the dead, but I have a '97 LS and was wondering how (if it's possible) do I enable the beep confirmation for when the alarm is armed/doors locked with the remote. Is this even available on the car as-is?

Figured it out. Button under the dash on the driver's side. It works now.
