Default PCV valve....time to replace?

I've noticed a little bit of gunk and moist grime around the pcv valve......is this an indication that it's time to replace it? If not...what does it mean?

It means the pcv valve is already clog an need of replacement. Cheap and very easy DIY.

Remove pcv and clean it with WD-40 inside and out ..............If you have a build up around it make sure the grommet is ok on valve cover...................MIKE

if I clean it with WD40 is there anyway to tell if it's time to be replaced....are they ok to use over again? Or am I better of bitting the bullet and spending the big $10....or 13.68 CND on a new one?

Why waste $13 if it is still good. Every little bit adds up. Check attached procedure to see if PCV is good or not .

Yes he could check if the pcv valve is still okay but why take a chance? It might get clog again in a few weeks. I doubt that valve is in good working order. It may even be < $13cdn.

haha ya has a few miles on it........I'm the 3rd owner. The Previous owner was my best friend who babied it and replaced anything as soon as it came close to being worn out.....all the typical stuff on a LS that would break he replaced. Climate control display, steering pump, bushings and control arms. it runs way way better then you'd expect then a car with 230,000 miles on it!!! But it is a Lexus right so it's expected!! The owners before him were an older couple who had it 100% dealer maintained. They were **** about everything. The service records are in 4 binders. Never any major brakes or damage.....had the emblems replaced at 200,000km due to "fading." hehehe. I looked at a few Lex's before this one, both newer and with less miles, but just weren't as nice!!

Only running complaint is the typical tapping...and idle is a bit rough....but spark plugs are due for a change long ago....so that hopefully will clear it up. I just drove from Nova Scotia to Ontario, over 2000km's, and drove 10 hour days. Made it with no problems. So can't complain!
