LS400_96

I am getting two different gaps for a 1996 LS400

Service manual says:

ND = PK20R11 gap .043 in
NGK = BKR6EP11 gap .043 in

Owner's manual says:

ND = PK20R8 gap .031 in
NGK = BKR6EP8 gap .031 in

which is correct?

You don't need to adjust the gap on Platinum tip spark plug. Look for the sticker under the hood and one of them will tell you not ot adjust the gap.

VVT-i can you please explain why you cant adjust the gap on platinum plugs? I bought the NGK plugs last week and they were gap at .035 and adjust it to .031 because that is what the manual states. I will try to widen the gap this weekend just to see what would happen.

You will probably notice a performance and mileage drop at .035, factory spec is .043

I would like others to share anything other than "stock" that offered the same or better performance.

I am currently running plain old NGK copper at .044 (97 LS400) and have the same mileage and performance as the OEM platinum. They also only cost $16 for the entire set (vs. $16 each for platinum.) Of course I will have to change them every 30k but that's no big thing.

Has anyone added water injection to their normally aspirated Lexus? Where did you get the vacuum switch?

How about MSD or Jacobs multiple spark discharge units? Where the heck did you mount them?

Those two inexpensive improvements are on my "to-do" list since they would offer full (or better) engine performance on regular gas as well as a cleaner engine.
