Default Next-Gen Lexus LS Rumored to Drop V8

Since 1989, Lexus's flagship LS has been offered with a V8 engine. But if you believe the latest rumor, then prepare for the end of that era.

That's a gigantic step backwards IMO. I can see them offering a six cylinder in addition to the eight, but if it's just six, I'll pass on the new LS if true and either keep this or buy something else.

Default Interesting....

I wonder if Lexus would put that engine with a little tweaking in a next gen IS F?. I'm still holding onto hope that they'll make another one.....

What are they thinking? A real flagship needs a normal 8 cylinder engine, the LS will not be considered much of a flagship anymore if it does not have a regular IC 8 cylinder standard. Genesis offers a affordable V8 in their flagship, this move may drive some LS buyers to Genesis. Are any buyers in this class really asking for a 4 or 6 cyl in their flagship and dropping the V8? The LS hybrid and GS hybrid are/were both failures just like all luxury hybrids so the market does not want hybrids either. Look at the success of the $100,000 V8 and V12 S class, how is a v8less LS supposed to compete with the S class and 7 series? What if Donald Trump reduces CAFE requirements in the US, gas prices likely will stay low for years, some future legislation may even favor larger cars with larger engines.

They must've listened to Carrol Shelby. Years ago he said the V8 was dead. Said turbo 4 and 6 cylinders were the future. Look at the new Cadillac V cars that use turbo motors. Huge power.

The V8's will almost be history like the typewriters and phone booths. Power and efficiency now comes thru turbocharging, 8-speed transmission, lighter materials and increasing technology. Just part of the evolution in the automobile industries.

Without a V8 available it won't be considered a true flagship anymore and is relegated to competing with a car like the CT6. Sad.

Like I said, I really feel like I'm driving my last Lexus. Next time I'll either step down to something like a G80 or a CT6 or go for it and get an S Class or 7. The brand just isn't speaking to me as a consumer anymore.

A twin turbo V6 will blow the doors off our V8s.

Lexus can pound sand with their V-6 in the LS. Turbo lag and all. Lexus hasn't maximized their current V-8, save for in the GS F. No V8, no new LS460 for me in all likelyhood. The CT6's 3.0tt is a magnificent engine in all honesty...having said that, the CT6 is NOT Cadillac's flagship sedan, either. That one has yet to be seen. And, I want a NA V8 in my LS. Simple as that.

Have you driven a modern twin turbo car? Turbo lag is a thing of the past.

I have driven many, and I strongly disagree. Just look to reviews of BMW TTs...

I will not buy a V6 ...EVER. Fortunately, there will be plenty of V8 equipped older models that I can better afford anyway. I dont care how much power a V6 makes.....I'll never drive one again.
