Sho wants to be our Guniea pig? LOL

Also, the speedometer would not be 4MPH slow. The mathematical difference between the 19s and 18s is 1MPH, so it would be ~ 3MPH slow if a car was calibrated to read 3MPH slow with 19s.

3+1 equals 3?

In any event, in the thread below the poster says his is off 5mph at 60, so why make that any worse. Mine was off at least 3mph with the 18's. You may deny the exact discrepency, but the discrepency is less by staying with the spec. 19 and above tire sizes. As far as instrumentation is concerned...it's better to go up than down. Update: Haven't bored anyone wiht our topic yet

How did you determine that your speedometer was off by at least 3MPH? Are you 100% sure your LS shipped with 18s and not 19s? As I said every Toyota/Lexus product I have owned has had a speedometer that was off by 2MPH, including my LS460. 2+1=3.

If his was off by 5MPH there was something wrong with his car.

Ill just say that my stock 18's and my aftermarket 20's are very similar in diameter and they're both about 3 kph off (according to my GPS). When my speedo shows 120kmh, my GPS is indicating 117.

This one is a bit more technical. You should include tire sizes, tread depth, and psi setting; if it's not being too personal? Because there is only a 1/2 inch difference, these three data points are indicative.

So, I photoshopped the 18 inch Teleios wheels that Steve suggested and messed around in Photoshop to convert my alloy finish to resemble a chrome finish (I couldn't find a suitable photo of an actual chrome wheel to use). The chrome definitely looks nice on the black car. I may have to settle on a chrome PVD finish of my OEM 19s (will cost ~$1000 as a wheel exchange) compared to any other chrome 18/19 wheel option (~$2000 for purchase, but I can recover some of it back by selling my stock rims). This is a decision for next year when I will be looking to get new tires.

18 inch Teleios

19 inch "chrome" turbine

I personally like the OEM 18s better, but that's my preference. You might find good second-hand wheels for cheap and they are hubcentric, meaning no hub rings required and they'll fit perfectly.

If you do finish your existing wheels, look beyond chrome. Find a finisher who can do "brushed clear," or "brushed tinted clear."

Or "hyper silver" or "hyper black."

You can see what the brushed finish looks like by visiting HRE's website, but I personally find those brushed finishes the best by far, followed closely by the hyper.

edit: here are some.

Porsche is brushed clear while the Audi is brushed tinted clear.

Thanks, Rhambler. I will check these out. I suspect they will cost more than the chrome PVD finish. Call me childish, but I like the shiny chrome look

My advice is get a multi piece wheel with chrome accents. A full chrome wheel is retro cool on a 76' caddy, kinda tacky on a turn of the century car. But we all have the right to be as gaudy as we want. I'd bet you will see less chrome accents on cars going fwd. more brushed and black chrome is ripe for use. Like one of the posters said, hub centric without hub rings is the way to go.

A little more than I'm emotionally invested in for this discussion, but I can give you some info

275 35 20 rear 34 psi
245 40 20 front 34 psi

235 50 18 front and rear at 34 psi

Tread depths are about equal

Default Will this work?

So, can I stick to 19 inch rims and get a tire with taller sidewalls for a softer ride? Can I get 245/50/19 instead of 245/45/19? The overall diameter increases to 28.6 inches from 27.7 inches, which should not cause any rubbing. The tire selection is much smaller, but Pirelli P Zero Nero and Michelin Pilot Sport all seasons are available in this size.

Not that it matters, but this size would also address the speedo calibration and make things more accurate.

I guess it's all relative. I sold my 22's and put my 19's back on while I waited for my 20's to be built. The 245/45/19's feel like marshmallows to me after riding on the 22's.

I'd stick with stock sizes. I wouldn't go up to a 50 series on the 19's.

Yeah, I saw the pics of the rims you just received. It's hard to believe those eight (?) tapered spokes can support a car this big. Look forward to seeing your new wheels. What tire are you getting? LOL, the marshmallows! I kinda like the soft cushy ride and want to enhance it further with the 245/50/19. So, why would you not recommend this strategy?
