Major shake while braking but not a rotor problem says my mechanic?
So for the last year or so, my 2007 LS has been shaking really bad breaking from about 65-75 mph. I thought for sure it would be warped rotors. Took it into my mechanic and they said the rotors were perfectly straight (and there was still a lot of break pads left). Said it could be the tires and/or wheels?
Anyone ever heard of that? I wished it was the rotors then at least I could get it fixed.
Also, my air suspension makes clunky sounds but they said everything looks great there. Sheeesh. The 2007 only has 49k miles on it.
Any help would be appreciated.body{zoom:200%!important;**

I would think if it's during braking that it would be something with the brakes ?? Do you know how many miles are on the front brakes and rotors ? And how did your mechanic know they were "perfectly straight" ?? Odds are its your rotors, I would start there. You can buy rotors and pads from Rock Auto from $150 - $200, they're easy to do.

Well you can check a couple of things (if the rotors are straight and were measured properly with a dial indicator).
I'd probably start with the hub...check the surface, make sure there is no rust buildup, perhaps try rotating the rotor's position on that hub. Then I'd check the wheel bearing for play, if it's loose it will cause some movement upon braking (sometimes). Next check every suspension component for play in the front end...control arms, tie rods, ball joints...anything that can move upon the braking force.
It could be the rear brakes as well...they could be warped. Another thing to consider is a buildup of brake pad material on the rotor that can cause a pulsation.
These are heavy cars...there's so much stress placed on the front end when braking...there's so many thing it could be, but rotor's are definitely the number one culprit IMO.

Sorry for the late response. I will definitely get a second opinion. The auto shop is great but no one's perfect. I just hate having issues that aren't cut and dry and I've got two of them affecting the ride which is part of the reason I bought this car in the first place. Thanks for the responses everyone.

Reviving from the dead, in case any one else has this issue. I have this issue as well. for me, it seems to be the bushings have gone bad on my lower control arms. Make sure you get them checked out as well.

Control arms are a common issue. Major weak point on the LS. You should be having them checked every 60-70K. That's not to say they break, the bushings just deteriorate that quickly. And they need to be "replaced" according to the shop. My right side arm needed "replacing" at 135K when Lexus did the last recall on my 2008 LS460 SWB. Yeah right... looked it over, the bushings were soft but not gone, there was a bit of movement but that was it. I kept a eye on them, looked them over every oil change, they never really went downhill any more.. If I'd experienced vibrations or bad tire wear they woulda been replaced though. I had 50K+ more miles on those same control arms when another car hit me and totaled it... ymmv.
