The LS, with its "soft spots" is one of the most reliable cars in the world, thats a documented fact. It can be plenty bad. But, if you have a warranty...

I love Walnut burl, but that's just too much Walnut burl. The old jag sedans had very tasteful interiors with great leather and fine wood but although the leather looks good that use of the wood is WAY overdone.
I can see Liberace (RIP) getting out of there, waving and smiling, and probably in a pink leather suit with a pattern made to resemble the burl in his car. (barf)
Reviews of new models can't determine reliability. Only many examples running over 100K miles with little or no problems can do that, and Lexus/Toyota are at the top of the heap.
Have a gander at this: http://longtermqualityindex.com/vehicles/Jaguar_XJ.html

I enjoy my LS but I'm wide awake at the party.
Did it hesitate when you change the oil, lose roof trim, require new b-pilar trim, need control arms, and door hinges? I addressed just as many issues with the LS as my Merc SL; the parts are just pennies on the dollar. How about new heads, fuel rail, and valve-train work? And did your Jag come with a "may blow up" warranty on your brake system. After those concerns you can address the unrefined suspension (couple grand to reel-in). I enjoy my LS but I'm wide awake at the party.
The only way a jag could be worse than an LS is if the engine fell out when you turned a corner lol

In it's price range $70k:$130k (that's a wide range), the LS is the most reliable luxury sedan, no qualms with that; if that's what you intended with your post

Just wanted to add this from Edmunds cost to own survey:
"The base 2011 XJ will cost $11,000 for maintenance and $16,000 for repairs. That's over $5500 per year without gas and insurance. A BMW 7 series would cost $17,000 for maintenance but just $9000 for repairs. A Benz S550 would be $11,000 and $8000 respectively. And a Lexus LS460 would be $7000 for maintenance and $3000 for repairs."
Gotta pay to play, of course, but the LS always appealed to me because of its more modest cost to own long-term. If you only want to keep any of the big boys for a few years max, then it's a different conversation. Really bought my late 2013 with the intention/goal of running with it for as long as I can. Now at 44k miles, it stills looks new to me and rides as smooth as can be. It's had some issues along the way, but nothing unreasonable with the important thing, in my book, being that they were easily resolved. And that's the thing with Jaguar: they often cannot resolve electrical gremlins and you either have to live with them or pursue lemon law. My CPO warranty expires 12/2019, so I am hoping to savor it at least until then. For my own purposes, I am ok with what it sacrifices in terms of performance and refinement; still the best car I've ever owned!

Reasonable Person
There is statistical evidence when recalls are issued. You can search the net or call your dealer for that. You can have someone check the postage on all the warranty extensions on the brake actuators aka sketchy abs love letters. There are things I'm omitting (i.e. sticky dash). Let us be reasonable

1. The ride kills this car...I have no favorite features, because I hate being in the car.
2. Eliminate the very annoying knocking sound from the fuel pump.

buy it and keep both!!! perfect compromise....
That way, when the Jag is in the shop, you still have the LS to drive around...

My 07 LS460L I picked up about 19 months ago from the Lexus dealer paid 24K, one owner and only 68K on it with executive package ( hard to find now). But now I see a 2011 XJL Black with London tan ... Sweet color combo. Asking 29K one owner and only 35K miles on it. Test drove it but is was rush hour so we sat in traffic. Okay guys I'm tempted, Help me stay the course..

Pole Position
out of curiosity, what is the silver "button" on the passenger head rest? seems like a very odd place to have something so conspicuous (and the silver really stands out in that interior).

Probably use to tilt the headrest.
