I have been in the cellular accessory field since 2002, that adapter right there is just something the store can make money on. Not a quality product at all. We call that the bullet shape car usb adapter, I wholesale tons of these units cause the price is right, but I don't use one myself...
So what do you recommend? I don't have mine to check the rating, but it has worked well for a couple of years.

Any unit with a 2.1a or a 2.4a would be appropriate, but some manufactures have fake labeling so it may be hard to filter those guys out. Some would list it as 2.1 but in actuality is still 800mah to 1A
For aftermarket, Griffin, Belkin, and Cellet seems to make a quality product. Branded units I would assume would want to protect their brand, so offering quality adapters is the only way to go for them.
There are many to choose from... Just don't buy them from the 7-11 counters in the clear acrylic displays.
