You should go to Edmunds, NADA and Kelley Blue Book websites and enter all the particulars for your car and your location. Average the 3 and that should give you an idea if the price is in the ballpark.

Let us know what you find out.

If you are buying from a dealer, use those sites to get the trade-in value. This may give you an idea what the dealer paid for the car you are about to pay retail.

Do you look up the VIN and/or get the service records?

Offer 26K at most, what color and options?

Black/black It has ML, does not have air suspension basically most other options but honestly it's been hard to find one like this with mileage and condition,

I haven't checked but I also think it is priced high. What did you find out from the different sites (NADA, KBB etc.) about its price range? Check Car Gurus to find out how long it has been on the lot. The longer it has been, you have more room to negotiate.

Well if that is the car you really want, decide on what is the price you want to pay. Go into the dealership with a check for $2000. Hand it to the salesman. Tell him you are ready to buy a car today and ask him if he is ready to sell a car today. Tell him for $26K (or whatever your price is) he can cash the check. At least at that point you bargain UP from your price, not down from his. It is real hard for him to hand that check back to you.

If we're putting "money up front" then I'd start at 24K and see where it goes from there.

Thanks guys I REALLY appreciate all the advice. I'm going in tomorrow with money in hand to buy....we'll see. I like it but I'm not desperate. I figured around 27ish OTD... who knows.

Yup, that's true. Just remember, they need to sell you a car more than you need to buy one from them.

Well, drove 2 hours, offered 26500, they said they had more than that in it I told them ok thanks, I appreciate your time.
They'll probably take to auction and get 24K. Oh well I'll find one.

Seems like dealerships don't like offers on the LS and expects to get top dollars for it. If the same LS still there a few weeks from now try again. Remember sooner or later a better deal will come along.
