Default 07 Ls460 no start with weird whine noise

Hi. Can you guys help me with this problem. I'm thinking it's the starter but want confirmation.

I went to go pump gas and this happened. Had to tow it back home

Battery is a few months old. I also tried putting a fully charged jump box to it with no results.

Gonna hook a scanner to it later to see if there is any code. (Shouldn't be any if it's the starter...correct???)

Update:
I hooked up a scanner to the car and found:
P0335 ( Crankshaft position sensor)
P0340 P0345 P0365 P0390 Camshaft position sensor

I guess its safe to eliminate the starter.

Do all the sensors need replacing or do you think one particular sensor is causing all the other sensors to go off as well.

Thanks in advance guys.

Same thing happen to me and it was the starter. Try to disconnect battery then restart.

It made the same noise too?

Weird that I'm getting those codes. I didn't think a starter could throw codes

Is it possible that the timing chain snapped? 135k on the car

Highly unlikely. The engine would still turn over, although it wouldn't start and you'd probably have some far more awful noises and internal engine damage!

Lexus Master Tech here.

It is likely the starter. Those codes will set if battery voltage gets too low. Check the freeze frame data if you can, and if battery voltage is under 9 volts when the codes set, it was just due the battery.

Geez...just when I thought it was safe to eliminate the starter from the list.

I guess I'll look into the starter.

Any other info guys?

I would start with the starter just because your getting those codes doesn't really matter since our cars throw weird codes once the battery is low. Just check all the connections and start with fresh battery.

Update: replaced the starter with Denso and the car fired up. All is good!

Just weird that ever tune else had a click related to a bad starter. Mines was making a weird whine/gear noise.

Thanks everyone.

That's what happens when the starter doesn't spin fast enough to overcome the spring tension to engage the flywheel - it just spins and doesn't do anything. If the starter doesn't spin at all then all you hear is the click of the solenoid.

Glad you're back on the road. When my starter went out, it was also making a strange gear noise, maybe even a little metal-on-metal type sound. The type where you think, that doesn't sound so good

Buddy's shop charged me $900 parts and labor. Wasn't too bad considering reading what others have paid. He used a Denso brand.

So after dropping my girls car off to get an alignment, I go to start my Ls and I get the same sound that’s in the video above. So seeing that it’s most likely the starter can anyone point me to the instructions of removing the starter ?
