Default Backup Camera

Yesterday I drove my wife's 2011 LS 460L for the first time at night. It was light rain. The backup camera was terrible. I could hardly see anything. Everything was way too dark. Even when I returned home and parked in garage, its still kind a dark without the rain. During daytime, its just okay, not the best.

My 2015 GX camera is very bright during night. Even my old 2005 LS 430 was never that bad. I tried to adjust the display setting while in reverse to adjust contrast and brightness, but not much difference.

My questions is , is this normal for 2011 model year or something wrong with camera. Are there any other setting apart from display? I adjusted both contrast and brightness settings while in reverse when viewing camera and when just viewing the map screen in park

I am planning to take it to dealership by end of June when I am schedule for an oil change. The car is under CPO warranty, so hopefully it would be covered.

Thanks

I would imagine you might want to put brighter reverse lights in the car.

Agreed, a nice set of high output LEDs should do the trick.

Maybe cleaning the small backup camera lense will help?

Here is how to do it

If you read this thread, there are examples of the bulbs people have used. It is all in the STICKY AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE which has the most useful information anywhere.

I don't remember which led's I used as its been years but the did make a difference and I have no issues backing up. I do know I got all the info I needed from that thread though

I have terrible back up lighting with my LED's. I did not put them in...they came with my LED Tail Lamps. They were much brighter with regular bulbs.

I would agree that older backup cameras are terrible in the fact that they have not aged well. On a '16, the picture quality is MUCH improved (also partly due to the nicer screens), and I will be attempting a camera upgrade to an older LS, just to see if it is feasible.
