Default What should I pay for my upgrade from 07 to 13? Help

Hello, I wanted to ask everyone about the price difference for a upgrade. I have a pristine 2007 LS with 114 K miles. I want to trade it in for a used 2013. I went to the VW dealer that has the car I want. It has 45K miles and it is a 2013 with ML and it is a 460L. It is a one owner lease car in really good shape. They are asking $48,900 internet price. I will still have to buy a warranty as it has only 5k miles left on it. This seems to me to be about 5 K over the going price to me. They also offered me 13K for my car. The salesman asked me to counter offer. My wife and I left and went to eat lunch. She has not called me back. I feel that their car is worth maybe 45 -46 K and my car should be around 16- 17 k trade in. Any car people that understand dealerships and trade in's please help. What do you think should be a fair price. I do understand that these lease cars will be coming off lease now and there should be several to choose from. Would I be better to go to a car auction in Florida and pick on Up? Help

Check out KBB.com to see what your trade is worth and what the 13 is worth.

Plenty of options out there, so unless you must have the car now my advice is to hold off and shop around as much as possible, for as long as it takes. Also, I recommend sticking to a harder number on your trade. In order to justify your number, run the KBB estimate, the NADA guide estimate, and the Edmunds estimate. Average out the 3 and insist that the dealer reach it or do better. Nothing unreasonable about that, but keep in mind they want to pay you the Manheim auction price and make it seem as though your tax savings will even things out. I never accept that argument because the tax savings isn't coming out of their pocket, so why should it come out of yours? Oh, and don't forget the PPI. Insist on it. Walk away if they don't allow you the chance to have the car inspected by a 3rd party, preferably a reputable Lexus dealer.

As for the price of that '13, IMO it is too high, as you have observed. How much warranty is left on it? New tires? Brake life remaining? Service history? How long has it been on their lot? Since it isn't certified, you may end up having to pay even more on top of their asking price and whichever warranty you buy. I think you can do better if you take your time and widen your net. The price they are asking seems more appropriate for a CPO car, but maybe I'm just being cheap. LS prices in general (especially '13+) seem to be pretty inflated here in the midwest. Because of that I waited nearly 2 years to find the right one at the right price. I watched the car sit on a particular dealer's lot for 3 months until the price dropped right where I needed it to be. As soon as it did, I pounced. It was hard to wait, but in the end I saved nearly 10k. Good luck to you either way!

I would also pull the VIN, either from the website or ask them, and I think you can check service history, recalls, etc. from Lexus, assuming he or she serviced it there. I remember reading that someone else did that.

Also, you may be surprised to find out that you can probably get huge discounts off of brand new ones right now and the difference in price isn't that much more than what they are asking for that used one. Well, assuming it isn't optioned well north of $80k.

Mine stickered at $76+ and they knocked $5k off after a little bargaining. That's almost 7% off. So for $22k more you can subtract out three years and 50k miles! Not sure if it's worth it or in your budget.

2013 LS460L average Manheim price with this mileage is about $45K. Don't forget if you buy it from Manheim you will need to pay $400 auction fee and about $500 to a dealer, who takes you there. Also, you can't check the car..you will buy whatever you see..no test drive or PPI. Your 2007 LS Manheim is $14K average price. Dealer works for profit, they are not attached to your car with any emotions you are. They can buy 10 like yours at auction, so your expectation of $$16-17K is a little too much . If I would be negotiating with them - I'd offer $14K trade in and $47K selling price.
Good Luck.

It has maybe 5 K miles left on the warranty. Yes I will have to buy another warranty. They printed out the service list from the lexus dealer. It was the Lexus dealer near my house. When my wife and I left the dealership, I gave the rep my card. She has not called me back. But instead she put it on ebay trying to have people bid on it.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lexus-LS-L-/...m=272228973510

KBB price range suggested dealer sales price is 43,800 to 48,300. Their price 48,900
KBB says my trade in value is 16,278 range 14,800 to 17,700

Is the car a good price if I offer them 30 K cash + TTL?

The car has new tires and a good service history. It does have a couple of small blemishes. But overall looks good. Does anyone know roughly what they are really making off of the sale and trade in?

Big difference in buying a new one vs a good used one is about 40 K.

Here is a CPO with 25k on it in Houston. Same price, way better deal.

Whoops, no ML though. You might try expanding your search with a larger radius.

Thats also not an LS460L.

That price is about right for an LS460L optioned that way IMHO...

I think the advice above is solid. If the average auction price is $45k, 47k.

I just bid on that ebay auction.

I don't think they'll like my high bid. Lol.

You can also look at the Lexus Certified ones.
You will have a peace of mind and should be able to negotiate a good deal with the Lexus dealership.
You can also take Your car to carmax for a second opinion or try to sell it privately to get the maximum value.
Thank You.

I am nowhere near Texas... but... Last month I sold 3 CPO LS460Ls...

1) Black/Black. 34K miles. $51,995
2) Black/Parch. 9800 miles. $55,400
3) Black/Flaxen 27K miles. $52,995

$48K for one with 45K seems steep if it's not CPO'd. LSs, like other higher end luxury cars are quite mileage sensitive and 45K is a lot for one of those. I would bet that you can find a CPO one with 45K on it for $47-49K rather easily.

$13K for your trade seems right. If Manheim (MMR) is $14K then $13K is probably right for a trade that's going to auction. $14,000 is the hammer price; there's a sale fee, there's title costs, transport, detail, etc.

While I don't have as much insight as RLD, I did just spend 6 months shopping for my 2013 long-wheel-base (LWB) LS460L.

Short story: If you're not focused on a LWB, then there are great deals to be had on short wheel base (SWB) models.

You'll get WAY more "bang for your buck" on a standard short wheel base, if you don't need the extra 5 inches of rear leg room, and the other options which come 'standard' on the LWB model.

In my experience, LWB models sell for more... and because I was ONLY looking for a LWB I had a pay a premium over a comparable SWB model.

That being said, to echo other's statements, that price seems high due to the mileage, even for a LWB.

Best of luck

I use Nadaguides over KBB, in my experiences it is was accurate. Sold many of my cars I no longer wanted to pay for to carmax, instead of trading it in. It seems as though I got more from selling to carmax than to trade. Worth a shot....
