Default Time to say goodbye & move on for now.

Sad to say that I have to say goodbye to my beloved LS460. Owning this car was such an enjoyable experience. I'm sure that anything I move forward to will not hold a light to this marvelous vehicle.
1 week ago Houston experienced heavy flooding, I unfortunately was unaware the rain would be so substantial. I was woken up by flash flood alerts by my cell phone, by which time the water was already 1/2 way above my tires. Never has it flooded in my area... Guess there is a first time for everything.

This the second Lexus that I lose, the first my LS430 in an accident and now this. Going to move on to something 4x4 or full sized pick up truck perhaps.

Sad part is I have a set of 21'' I was having rebuilt, brand new OEM bumpers that were going to paint with lip kit i was planning to order & lastly brand new oem roof moldings... I'll most likely be placing these items for sale.

Wow, sorry to see that happen. I've been watching video of that flooding on the news. It is really unbelievable.

Best of luck with whatever you choose for a replacement.

Unfortunately floods happen and your LS 460 will never be the same. Moving on can be good and hopefully you will keep us informed on your next purchase.

Sorry about your car. That is just an amazing amount of water. Unbelievable. Hopefully only your car got flooded and not your home.

You try getting a refund on the parts? I would call whomever you purchased them from and just explain your situation. Show them pics or direct them to this thread. Hopefully you can get your money back.

Good luck on your next vehicle!

Very sorry to see this.

Out of curiosity, did the engine still run afterwards, and was the car derivable?

Obviously you wouldn't want to keep a flooded car (since the electrical components will rot and disintegrate over time), but it would be interesting to hear more about the technical details.

best of luck!

Insurance lady called, she asked how high the water got and basically told me it was a total loss over the phone. My area was hit so hard they are not even coming out to see them in person if you have pictures.

Car wont even unlock, didnt want to try to start it in an effort to not cause my damage to it.

Sucks I had just spent 1,100 on new tires and alignment.

Here's what I bet will happen:

After they declare a total loss, your insurance company will sell it for 20% of the value via a "flooded junk auction", some "export company" will dry it out thoroughly, get it running (somewhat), send it to a third-world country (like Romania) under the premise of "parts only", get new fictitious paperwork for it, and resell it at 80% to 120% of it's regular value.

The final buyer in the third-world country will probably never even see the original VIN number for the car, so even if they are familiar with Carfax (which is unlikely), they'll never get the true story of what happened to the car.

Make sure you remove any identifying information from the car before the insurance company tows it.

Don't leave ANYTHING in there that could identify you personally (registration cards, insurance cards, warranty identification, etc).

If it were to start (which I bet it won't), I would even try to clear out the recent GPS locations ("home address" and such).

I've seen instances where years after cars were "totaled" and shipped offshore, the final buyer of the junk car would start coming after whomever they can identify to the car... usually the previous owner. It's happened.

That's (often) how it works.

Best of luck.
