Interesting sales pitch from Lexus on CPO I ran across on YouTube:

A slick well educated salesman who knows the car without referring to notes........The only thing he forgot to say is: "On a CPO car we will NOT do a NAV update because it is NOT on the CPO check list."

A simple thing like NOT doing a simple NAV update really "soured me" on the purchase of my ($50+k) 2013 CPO LS....... I am still waiting for my customer satisfaction survey to come so I can mention this.

I was surprised that the CPO cutoff is 70,000 miles... which seemed kind of high to me.

At least they were honest about how the source their CPO cars... by saying they also get them from the "open market" (i.e. wholesale auto auctions like Mannheim")... some dealers will make you believe the CPO requirements are way tighter.

Chuck, I had to chuckle a little bit at your post. Please know that I am sympathetic and I hear you. Trust me if I owned the dealership I would give it to you as a goodwill gesture. Unfortunately some dealers either haven't learned that, or refuse to learn that, or are too cheap to do that.

However, that being said from all I have read here that simply is not part of the CPO and the best way to get it is negotiate it before you buy the car.

To me it is just one of those live and learn lessons.

YEP! Live and learn AND gain valuable knowledge from CL so that is why I posted my reply....... I feel that when you buy a CPO vehicle like a LS from a company that advertises "Perfection" that they would not do the update on my NAV as part of the CPO process. I noticed the old NAV maps once I started using it the following week and IF I knew this I would have had it done as part of my purchase..... They gave me a year of "complimentary" car washes (that I will never use) but would NOT do the NAV update without paying $275. I can honestly say I was very satisfied with the salesman and F&I guy BUT not doing the NAV update is poor customer relations especially on a $50,000+ CPO car..... Doing a "good will" gesture would have been the right thing to do on a "simple task" like the NAV update and posts like this would not appear to give the Lexus CPO "brand" a "minor blemish."
End of rant...... Now I feel better! :woohoo

If a CPO is similar to a home warranty in that it absorbs cost on things that break, why would an update to a map be part of the deal? The nav isn't broken, it's just outdated by a year. I personally update the nav every 4 or 5 years since it's very similar to watching a soap opera. You can miss it for a year and it's still pretty much the same. Oh maybe one tv star replaces another, but for the most part, nothing changes.

The best thing to do is negotiate an update as part of the sale. Get it in writing and a few years down the road, have it updated.

Default Cpo

For me, CPO wasn't worth the premium I would have paid for the same car (Over 32K before tax -- Easily 34.5K after.)
