My telescopic steering wheel on my 2007 LS460L stopped working.
On my 2007 Lexus LS460L the telescopic part of my steering wheel stop working the tilt still works perfectly. It makes a whirring type sound but the steering wheel does not extend or retract. Does anybody have any idea if they both work off the same motor or if a gear is broken and how to fix it without going to lexus. Thanks for any help I can get.

I don't know about the 460, but on my 430, I had the same problem. I do believe there are two motors, but, it may also be something a bit more simple. On the 430, the cogs (or whatever they're called) were plastic and when the teeth broke, it caused the whirrr sound. Just a thought.

R Z: Great video and great information!
To the OP:
Please do let us know how you decided to troubleshoot your issue and the steps you took to do so, and what your final decision was/will be.
I don't recall any of us having this issue, so it'd be a first to hear about it and it'd be helpful to our community.
Good luck with getting it fixed.

I would think that both functions work off the same fuse, but it would be worth checking if they are on separate fuses and the telescopic one is blown.

Sorry I cant help but there's a lot of info on the LS400 forum. This happens to them quite a bit. That's why I kept my automatic retracting function turned off for 16 years. Also I had the dealer turn off this function on my 460 soon as I got it since there is no button. I have talked to people with different makes that keep their retractable mirror function turned off because of fear of an expensive failure.
