garmin nuvicam - why I use one in my 2009 LS
don't see many people using GPS units anymore, but I've been using a NUVICAM for a few months now and for a little less than $400, its a value in my opinion:
1) Camera records fwd w/ high quality
2) lane departure warning/fwd collision alerts (obviously not to the level of in car systems, but better than nothing)
3) the gps complements my in dash system. display is higher quality than my in dash system
4) Shows the speed limit of the current road
5) voice commands - can create a route while driving using more capabilities than the in dash system
I prefer the friction mount (rather than the suction cup) mounting. This allows it to sit on top of the dash.

I hate extra crap on my dash. I avoid it at all costs. The less wires and accoutrements, the better. My 08 nav with updates works just fine for me. When I get my recall done, I'll have them install the latest update as well.

Less stuff the better. I even find today's navigation displays in newer cars like a8 bad looking. They basically look like iPads sticking out of the dash and I don't find it funny at all.

I use my phone usually for short trips. If I'm going for a long drive it usually involves 95S or N and I know it by heart from Ma to SC, so I don't even use one.
The new look of popping tablets out of the dash is ugly as hell. I don't like anything sticking up into my sight.

I remember times when you had to write down directions. Stop and ask people if you got lost. I'm 37 .
I gotta say of all tech toys out there, iPhone is one of my favorites. Being able to face time with your kids from anywhere in the world is just priceless .
Navigation and maps being the next best thing .
Yelp, which means no one should even have to eat bad food. Ever!!!!!!
And internet access . Hotel booking and all that crap.oh and banking. Etrade access. List goes on but I think I named my favorites just there .
I have to be honest , when I take my 92 Lincoln on road trips and sometimes iPhone has no service because I'm in wooded areas of upstate NY, I get excited. The possibility of getting lost, finding new roads, new areas...
