Deteriorating moonroof glass "edging"
#17
An extreme case for a Lexus. I have a 15 y/o Honda and the edging still looks great.

I don't think it's a climate thing as my car has never left the northeast. First owner lived in Maine and I'm in Ma so it's never been subjected to heat or humidity.

This moon roof rubber is most likely from a "bad batch" because if you look at the surrounding pieces of rubber they are all good. I have a 2000 Crown Vic that sits outside all year in the NJ weather and all the rubber is still in very good condition....... Fuggabout my sons 97 ES that was neglected (serious neglect and never detailed or waxed) by the previous owner and the rubber around the moon roof is still looking good.
My LS will be going back to the dealer since it is a CPO under warranty and I hope that it will be replaced under warranty.
FWIW! My LS was garaged at night by the previous owner and parked in a parking deck (under a deck) and I keep the car garaged unless we are on the road, so I don't feel this is a heat, UV, (sun related) cause.
Please keep everyone posted how you make out with the dealer replacing the roof under warranty and I will do the same.

This is NOT an isolated incident, unfortunately...
My '08 460L had this issue (albeit not as severe) at less than 4 years old and 40k miles, and Lexus replaced the moonroof panel. As of last check, my '10 600hL was fine (afraid to go look at the moment), but this car has less than 15k miles and is always inside.

Thank you, all for the follow-up to my post. I'll try and schedule a replacement of the moonroof and take care of the squeaky front brakes at the same time. All under warrant, I hope.
