Default Brake dust

Man, this car kicks out a lot of brake dust. More than the BMW I had, which was notorious for soft, dusty brakes.

Is it because my car is brand new, with new brakes? Will it get better or will be ongoing regardless of how many miles are burned into the pads?

Your signature has no indication of what you're driving. Year? F Sport?

I believe its a 2016.

It will get better. Mine don't really kick off much dust now, I'm at 10k miles. My GS was worse.

Ok thanks.

I figured as much.

There's literally a find, black dust accumulating on my fenders behind the wheels. It hasn't rain nor have I driven over any water so I was a bit confused what it was until I swiped my finger through it.

My rims are getting caked as well.

I'm driving like a proverbial grandpa right now, too.

I have to clean my brake dust off once a week, if not it gets out of hand. I imagine it has something to do with how heavy these cars are, and how much pad material it goes through just to stop these cars.

For non-Sport/FSport, Akebono ACT1283 rear and ACT1282 front
For FSport/Sport, Akebono ACT1283 rear & Power Stop 161440 Evolution Ceramic front

The above combos will solve the problem. How do I know? I have both combos, one on each LS460.

I just put those brake pads on my 2009 LS SWB...there is less brake dust, but still a noticeable layer on my 18" OEM chromes.

Yep, the Akebonos still dust, but much less than OEM. The Power Stop pads actually dust less than Akebonos. Of course, this also means that they will probably eat the rotors like candy.

I actually think they're worse than OEM - there was a thread over the summer regarding it and some others were experiencing the same thing.

I tried many brands on all my vehicles and found Wagner ceramics to work the best. My 2007ls has now had them for the last 50k with minimal dust and good performance. I still have my original rotors at 118k and don't see any unusual degradation.

There are many ceramic compund brake pads today that are quite gentle on brake rotors and are pretty clean. It's not like when the ceramic pads first came out where they just ate rotors like crazy...thankfully.

Tec80,

I replaced the Brembo Brake pads to the Power Stop 161440 but my brakes are still squeaking. Do you have the same issue?

Thanks,
Dave

No squeaking with my Power Stops. Did you bed them in? http://www.powerstop.com/brake-pad-break-in-procedure/

I ordered some Duralast gold ceramic pads from AutoZone. They've worked good for me on other cars.

When I got my Mercedes used it had oem new pads that turned the wheels black bad. I bought Akebonos. They made so much noise I just went to autozone and bought some $40 pads that were quiet and put out way less black dust. The special high dollar designer pads are no better and
from what I have experienced worse.
