I reviewed the postings under Whatisayut's thread. My symptoms are similar, however I did not have the help of a big box store. I have tried to reset using the emergency release, to no avail. The battery disconnect/reconnect allows the mechanism to cycle, but it cycles completely through the lock cycle and on to the unlock cycle again. It continues to cycle for about 4 times, then stops on the unlock. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try using your manual key?

The manual key will turn quite freely. However, it has no effect on locking the trunk.

Mine messed up about a year ago. Same exact thing. I had to buy a new latch. Lexus wanted $900 for parts and labor. I ordered the part online and put it on myself. I think I paid about $575 for the part and it fixed the problem.
