Default Power steering out

I need a little help and advice. Got in my 2007 LS460 and it wouldn't start. No power, no clicking, nothing. I checked the battery terminals and noticed they has some corrosion so I cleaned them and reattached. Nothing. I found that if I jiggled the positive cable the power would light up my dashboard with every light / radio, but it still wouldn't start....and I had to disconnect the cable in order to turn the power off. I had the car towed to a trusted Toyota/Lexus repair shop I've used for 15 years. They connected the cables to the battery and it started right up....but the power steering is out. They tried multiple things to get it working with no success. The only option now is to replace the electronic power steering unit. $4000 part! Any suggestions or advice? Anything they might have overlooked?

We have not had many reports of power steering failures here.

Before you do anything else, you need to determine the battery's State-Of-Charge.

If the battery is defective or there has been a poor connection, the SOC can become very low. Sounds like one of you battery cables may be defective.

I believe that the car's power steering is electric, as opposed to hydraulic, and the power steering becomes disabled when there isn't enough current available from the car's electrical system.

$4000 part and labor included? I would definitely get a second opinion.

Did they say whether it was the steering ECU module? Perhaps your electrical issues caused a failure of that module. If so, there are a few available on Ebay for 3-4 hundred dollars.
