Default At what RPM is your 600h idling?

In the morning, it's a bit cold, i start the car and it idles at about 1300 RPM
After a while it drops to 1000 RPM
The car NEVER gets below that. Is that normal?
I think 1000 RPM is a bit high for a 5L V8, but it's a hybrid...
The traction battery is full (not charging) and the engine is at "normal" temperature. The car is in "D" (drive)
Yes, the car turns off the engine when i stop, and yes the car runs in EV-mode up to 35MPH over about 2 or 3 miles.
Is 1000 RPM normal? What's your experience?

Yes it is normal, when the 600 idles with engine running then it is either heating up the gas engine or charging the battery. In both cases, I also see RPM in the range 1000-1500.

While driving at higher speed without throttle, I looked today and I was doing 65mph at 1000 rpm.

Bottom-line, hybrids are different animals don't compare them to gas only cars.

Agree this is typical. Also bear in mind once the powertrain warms up the system will light the engine occasionally to warm the cats and other drivetrain components; so the wizards and elves have a different agenda. I've seen it idle higher periodically when it's cold out (1200 rpm). It may also be cooling the engine after a hard run? I dunno.

My LS430 idles between 600 and 750 rpm for what it's worth.

Thanks for the replies
I don't recall my 2007 GS 450h idled at 1000 RPM so that's why i asked.
Glad to hear it's normal.

Just drove it yesterday, and yes, it was at 1,000.

Now, separate question: how did you know the idle speedin your GS450h? I don't recall that car having a tachometer. Did it display engine RPM elsewhere? Just curious!

Yep, I checked my 2008 LS600hL and found the idle speed to be right around 1000 rpms also. I generally don't get much higher than 2000 rpms when I'm accelerating, so the engine operates 95% of the time between 1000 and 2000 (or total off when driving below 40 mph on flat ground), which has got to be pretty easy on an engine of this quality. Cruising on the interstate at 70+ mph often yields an engine speed of 1000 or slightly higher also. I can only imagine how long the engine will last with regular maintenance and this sort of operating parameters! Guess the batteries will likely crap out first, although I don't expect that for a long time either. Couldn't be happier with my entire LS600hL experience!
