Your car has been written off and there are no LS460's...What are you buying?

Exactly. In fact you can pick up a 2015 with 10k miles, here in Canada with AWD, panoramic roof, 5.0 liter engine and loaded for 37k dollars CDN ....(about 30k U.S.). That's huge depreciation, but a great value for the subsequent buyer. A 2012 R Spec you can get for 20k dollars with 30k miles.

If I were forced...
If I were forced to choose between the Hyundai Genesis, Equus, K9000 (just one of those 3) and a 7 Series BMW, I would choose any of the Korean cars.
Know why? Because THEY TRY to copy Toyota. Which as a result is a helluva lot better in quality than a 7 Series. The styling lines are not a direct copy, they've got a German VW guy now that is doing a great job on styling. But as much of the underlying engineering as is possible, is an attempt on copying Toyota, as much as Hyundai possible. But even at that, they do a poor job.
I chose something noone else has. A volt. It is Corolla sized. But I figure that there's a good bit of tax to be avoided by not buying gas. And I think the Volt is actually a better concept than the Prius. I think the mileage tax (miles per year) is likely coming to every state, in order to capture the tax lost by new electric and hybrid vehicles (not buying (as much) gas).
But guess what? Gas cars will get hit twice. Gas tax and mileage. At least an electric car will continue to bypass the gas tax. Something to think about.

If we're talking about used cars, I would avoid the 7 series unless it was CPO. But new with a warranty to lease like I do, I wouldn't be worried about a 7 series at all.

If I'm being practical I would take a good look at an Infiniti Q70. If I started dreaming, then a Panamera. And it gets worse from there!

Was the car you rented the V8 or the V6? The V8 is a lot more refined.

speaking of consumer reports recent reliability test, Audi is the 3rd most reliable car brand period after lexus and toyota...something to think about.
if i didn't care about reliability, then my dream, maybach 62

I'll buy this during the typical 3-year or 39-month lease period. I'll be convinced it's true in the long term after the recent cars have accumulated more years and miles. Based on VAG's track record I still have a hard time believing they won't be money pits when they're ten years old and have over 100,000 miles.

Can't deny they are visually appealing cars, with great performance value, but for buyers like myself, I believe these will remain great lease options.
Beyond a 6-7+ year ownership period (if that), im wondering what may break instead of enjoying the thing.

Audi (and all the other German marques) have a lot to prove over the next many years. I simply can't trust them after getting burned. Look at the debacle with VW recently. Then look at the BMW's and their horrendous reliabilty. MB? Same. Audi? Ditto. etc. And then people scoff at buying a Hyundai I'd get a Hyundai over any of the above.....at least they back their products with a stellar warranty.
