Hey everyone, I just purchased a 07 LS460L and the oil change is coming up
For my 94,96,96,99 I have always put mobil 1 extended performance for the oil. I was going to put the same brand until I discovered that my lexus dealer has toyota motor oil.
Price wise it cost the same plus or minus a couple cents, which one would you guys suggest replacing with?

Most on here swear by the Toyota genuine motor oil synthetic. I've used all types in my LS460...Mobil 1, Mobil 1 EP, TGMO, Valvoline...they all responded the same to me. And I've used both 0w20 and 5w20.

I've been using 0w20 Mobile 1 synthetic but plan on switching to 0w20 Toyota Genuine Motor Oil at the next oil change.

I have done a lot of research into this and I'm not brand loyal. The Toyota 0W-20 is made by Mobile however it has a stronger additive package (Moly) and a very high viscosity Index which would be beneficial to your motor.
It may be debated however it's the same price as other competing off the shelf oils and easily available.

Well I want to give toyota a shot. I always use oem filters so it's just more convenient if I buy the oil right then and there

The Denso oil filters that Toyota sells are also very high quality.

My experiences with various synthetics is well documented here at CL, so you can easily do a search for my views and issues. I'll only state here, that I will not using anything but Toyota 0W20 ever again. It has served me well, is priced similarly to Mobil, Pennzoil, etc, and has all the additives and needs that my LS460 requires (as Devh stated).

It's a no-brainer. Since I use a Toyota filter that I purchase at my dealer, picking up the oil at the same time is convenient. My dealer sells me the oil in bulk for 6 bucks/qt and the filter for $6.25...all I have to do is bring in my empty oil jugs and they fill 'em. So all in, doing the oil change myself costs me about 60 bucks. They even throw in a drain plug gasket for free.

Ask your dealer if they'll do the same for you.

My nearby Toyota Dealer had it in quarts for just a shade over $6.00 each.

This 2011 LS460 had not had an oil change since 2012. It had not exceeded even the brief dealer suggested service mileage interval however, It's prior owner had suffered a stroke & never returned to the road.

Is the Toyota oil a 100% synthetic oil? I use Aaaamsoil oil in ALL my other cars and now since I just purchased a CPO LS, I have to consider which oil to use in it.

I use Royal Purple and it's available at Walmart 24hrs a day (store hours may vary). If you're going to change your own oil, it may be wise to invest in an extra filter assembly.

Mobil 1 Extended Life is all that I use for my 460 and the wife's Sequoia. She's put 200K mile on her truck with Extended life since 75K and it's been a great oil.
Sent out for an Oil Analysis and received an excellent review.

What's an "extra filter assembly"?

The enclosure that holds the oil filter. If you change your own oil, you'll know that the housing isn't designed to take abuse. The dealer will eventlly break it.

I don't think anything is wrong with the plastic filter housing. It just cant take the abuse of the dealer or quick oil change places over tightening it. It should be tightened to 20 ftlb or torque.
