Default Rear bumper fit

So I have seen this issue on multiple vehicles. I see it every time I wash my car and it has really been bothering me. The rear bumper, just below the tail light, doesn't sit tight against the car. It is actually loose. I can push it in, but it doesn't snap or lock in. It only moves so ever bit slightly. But when it sticks out, it just bothers the heck out of me. I have checked carfax, lexus owners, and even lifted the car up and took a look under to see if there was damage. Everything look orginal. See photos. Anyone else have similar fit issues

This picture I actually push on the panel slightly and it looks correct

I have the identical problem in the same spot, except on the other side of the car. I have no idea if the bumper was removed and put back on and someone broke a clip or something. It really bugs me when I wash and wax the car. I push it in and it pops right back out. I'm not very handy so I don't want to remove the entire rear bumper just to see it is 1 broken clip. I would probably never be able to get the bumper back on.

Both of our LS460s have this condition at the L rear corner. Tapping on the piece reveals that there is a fastener loose where the other side is tight. This diagram shows a fastening point visible with the trunk open that might pull the bumper cover in: http://jp-carparts.com/lexus/partlis...ype=3&fig=5202

I tried the fastener accessible with the trunk open, no effect. I think the taillight has to be removed to get to the fastener we are interested in.

I will give this topic the week and see what others have came across. Then maybe I will make this my project next weekend to tear open the trunk and see what I find. I see to have this condition on both sides. And I can't feel any snap clip that is loose.

Had the same problem when i bought my car.
The rear bumper was "reconditioned" prior to sale.
Took it back to dealer.
SA said it was a loose fastener/clip.
Easy fix. Wondering if your rear bumper was removed and put back on.

The same problem here! It looks like we found another "bug" in the design of the car.

I have the same problem as well. i figured that it was my rear bumper cuz it looks like someone backed into the center of it.

You're right.... I think my bumper is off because of a broken clip.

I have the same problem but on both side, I think it's L shape that hold the bumper to the quarter. I'm planning to buy both side and do it myself.

Perfect timing. I just purchased 2011 LS460 with the same problem. Was planning to bring it to a dealership to have it fixed. Any DIY on this common issue?

I have the same issue and was told they would have to drop the bumper to fix it. I bang it back it place as I walk by and hope it stays put until I get in the car....

Me too. I have been doing it since 2010 on my 2008. Sales guy told me they would have to Plastic Weld it back - What ever that is. I am now replacing my rear bumper cover myself because of a Little ding on the bottom corner and will replace the two side support for $58 each. I hope that will fix the issue. Found the Cover for $400 and will have it painted for $500. Cost to put it on at the Collision shop was around $200. Looks pretty easy. Wonder how long these will last.
