Default 13 GS350 F sport or 2010 LS460 AWD

I'm debating between a 2013 white GS350 Fsport or Black 2010 Ls460 AWD with appearance package. Has anyone switched from LS460 to GS350 where they're happy with the purchase?

I currently have 07 LS460 with 165k miles. Vehicle was great to me until the last 2 months where vehicle would burn 1qt of oil for every 1k miles. My mechanic said engine needs to be rebuilt or replacement.

I seriously considered doing this a year ago. Have driven LS models for 10 years. Drove a lot of GS models, along with BMW 5 series, etc. In the end, could not pull the trigger as the LS is so much more refined, quieter, comfortable, etc. Even had Lexus sales managers that strongly encouraged me not to do it as others that have regretted it. But I am 57 years old and value a comfortable, quiet ride. If you are younger and want more of a drivers car with better handling, then a GS might be the right car for you.

I looked at a gs350 when trading in my 06 gs430. To me it felt small. With a child seat in the back it would be even smaller on the inside.
I,wasn't crazy about the design inside or out either, my older gs looked better. I did not test drive it so I can not chime in on that.

In your situation I would not want to get back in the same Ls again. 07 and 10 are pretty much the same.
See if you can manage a 2013 and up model, at least the dash is newer and the car looks a bit newer as well.

But ultimately, I think a test drive in both cars is a must. Only then can you make the decision.

Good luck.

Could you kindly tell us what kind of oil you used and how often you changed it.

After test driving gs350 f sport, it was not a WOW factor because my LS460 has all the options the GS came with besides BSM. I have 2 kids and the LS460 is a very roomy sedan for a family of 4. The reason why I have not pulled a trigger on the 2010 LS460 because I wanted something different and roomy. Maybe I need spend a bit more for 2013 LS460.

Simplest way I can put it is every time I get a new GS loaner it makes me appreciate my LS even more.

Or to put it into a different perspective:

High end < ------------- > Entry level
LS---------------------------------------------------------GS-------ES

I've been using Mobil1 Synthetic 0-20. Been changing them every 5-6k miles interval.

A friend of mine bought a 13 GS sport from someone for a pretty fair price. He seems to really like it. It looks good, but compared to the LS it's much smaller and noisier. It's really a matter of choice.

Thank you. Try switching to a 0W 30 or a 5W-30 and your consumption should come down.
I have solved a lot of consumption issues this way and it might actually help in your case for the time being.

Similar to my experience when I first bought my 08 with 60k miles. After switching to TGMO synthetic 5W20 and an engine oil system cleaner from Toyota, my consumption has dropped to about a qt every 3k miles and continues to drop. FWIW, this seems to be a common issue and if you do a search here at CL, you'll see posts that speak of similar experiences. Lexus (and most manufacturers), indicate that these are normal consumption values.

This month's issue of Consumer Reports has a comprehensive article about this phenomenon among many manufacturers. There are reports that this problem is increasing, with VW, Audi and BMW and a few others being the worst offenders. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/m...tion/index.htm

Thanks. I'll definitely try TGMO with oil system cleaner from Toyota at my next oil change.
