Default 2010 LS 460 Transmission Drain and Fill Results p.3

Just had Toyota do a drain and fill on my 70,000 mile transmission. The bill was for 4 qts. and two washers/gaskets. Total of $123.17, $60/labor and $52.54 parts. I had them collect 4 oz of the fluid so I can send it off to Blackstone Labs for analysis. Pretty dark looking. I'll post my analysis when available. I think that even if the analysis comes back fine, I'll do two more drain and fills to have "fresher" fluid.
The Toyota dealer in Ocala has a gourmet chef lunch counter. Today they served fresh Maine lobster salad on a toasted hot dog bun with a side for $12.95. I'll be stopping in for lunch more often.

See post 35 for results.

Did you notice any difference after the change, like faster or smoother shifts ?

I've only driven 8 miles in combined traffic so far. Everything's smooth as before.

They were serving lobster rolls? That's reason enough to have it done!

I think you're making a good decision getting the fluid changed - this stuff is not a "lifetime fluid" - and I think it's wise doing it the way you're doing it. Drain and refills take time, but it's easier on the transmission IMO. It won't "shock" the system and you aren't introducing so many cleaning solvents all at once that may dislodge something, or harm something...gradually you'll have the fluid changed out.

The only problem with it is price - it will take three trips to replace the twelve quarts the transmission takes - that equates to somewhere around $375.00, when you are done. And the time you spent getting the car there...and eating all those lobster rolls

It's either the most expensive Lobster rolls I've ever eaten or the tastiest fluid changes I've ever done. I'm OK considering I won't do it for another 70k or more.

No, just a drain and fill. Suggest you do a thread search on this subject for an important understanding of this seemingly (but not ) straight forward procedure.

Agreed, the glass is half empty. Like a Troll or

I've put him on my Ignore list. Very off putting.

I forgot..you're a scientist. But I do think there are some good points brought up in the thread, personally I don't see a problem with the fluid itself, but I do think it needs to be changed.

I found the thread interesting but it had me back at square one.
The reason why it's controversial is because most people follow manufactures recommendations especially when it seems like Toyota techs are turning people away by saying it's not needed.
Lets say for argument sake the fluid breaks down early then it wouldn't be before long that transmissions wouldn't be falling from the sky and Toyota would be up to there knees in PR kind of like their oil gelling issues a decade ago.

I don't mind switching fluid to something better but I want a others to take that plunge before I do.
