Confused on wheels to buy
Hi there,
New owner of a 2008 LS460. I love love the car but was hoping to add two things:
1. Different wheels
2. Some bass via a small bass box in the trunk.
I think I can handle #2 by a visit to Car Toys. #1 is becoming difficult for me to figure out.
I went through the wheels thread and fell in love with the Vossen CV1. Come to find out they don't make them any more and even if they did, I'm so confused on what I would get. My current tires are: Michelin Sport A/S Plus 235/50 ZR18 97Y M+S
I found two wheels that are more in my budget and both are located on tirerack.com:
ASA GT10
http://tinyurl.com/p9roqwv
Monte Titano MT2 Pari
http://tinyurl.com/q2u25ve
Here is where I'm confused. I see lots of other LS460 owners that have 22" and other size rims. I would like to just use my existing tires and get the 18" but would I be wishing I would have gotten bigger ones and just bought tires? Will I notice a big different between the different sizes?
I'm in my (almost) mid 40s so I'm not cruising on weekends or racing, just want to have a nice looking car.
Thanks for helping me with my basic questions here. I just don't want to pull the trigger and have remorse.
Thanks,
Eric

Be aware, 20" rims will have a definite affect on ride quality.
You'll also have to be very careful of road hazards - rim damage is a very real risk with larger rims (because of necessarily lower profile i.e. thinner sidewall tires).
I'm in the same quandry as you - I don't care much for the factory 18" rims, but I'm not looking to spend thou$and$ on a new set of rims, plus more for a different set of tires. If I do anything, it will most likely be an 18 or 19" solution.
Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to just get the 18s so I can reuse my tires. My kids will go to college I guess..
Still a tough one to choose between the two. I'll post a pic of whatever I get back on here if anyone is interested.

Things to consider:
You can keep the 18's for use in the winter with winter tires like I did. OR...you could sell them and recoup the cost of the new wheel/tire package you go with.
If you're bound and determined to stay with the 18's, I prefer the ones in your first pic.
Do you have the Mark Levinson system? If so, I strongly discourage you to mess with it.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't think I have a Levinson system, it doesn't say it anywhere on the dash or in the screen.
The one thing was underwhelmed with was the sound. It it good but there is no bass at all. Was going to try something like this: http://www.cartoys.com/car-audio/sub...oofers/bass800
Thoughts?
Also, you got me thinking about 20" now. I've seen a bunch of posts on this site with others having my same car with 22"s and some 20".
These should work correct? I would just need new tires..
http://bit.ly/1FiuCyg (I only see 20x9.5)
Also, should I be getting different size wheels as well? (like I see others having on this forum)
ie.
Wheel Size Front: 20x9
Wheel Size Rear: 20x10.5

Thanks. Do I need different wheel sizes? 20x9.5 is what they have on the tirerack size for some wheels I like. I see others having different front/back sizes.

Here is what others are doing which includes 18-22 sizes along with tire sizes, offsets and other info to help you decide what to do https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ls-thread.html

The wheels I posted are not available in 20". The ones I do like they don't have "Front Fitment No Longer Available" Avarus AV10.
Any other sites you guys like/trust? Looking for 20" Vossen CV1 type wheels with 10 spokes matte silver with machined face.
Thanks,
Eric

I suggest 20's if you are not planning on doing suspension mods (lowering) in the future.
Check out the classified section as well as the wheel and tire sticky. Also Google "ls460 20 inch wheels" for more pics.

Nice, thanks guys. I feel like I just took a class in wheels.
I found this http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/2...150944945.html but I'll keep checking around now that I know what I'm looking for. Man, some of these wheels are pricey. Could easily drop 5-6k on new wheels and tires.
