Thanks for sharing. I've just ordered the same set of 8 control arms on ebay for $510, for my 2009 LS460. will then try find a shop in Houston to do work. Thanks.

Wandl -- Any update on your control arms from ebay? It's been 8 months since you did the repair and it would be great to get an update on how it's going. I'm probably going this route.

@Wandl, thanks for the update. I'm going to order the upper and lower front control arms from ebay.
I'm also thinking of keeping the original ones as spares in case the ebay ones fail too soon. I can send the original control arms to a shop in Colorado to have them press new bushings. Spares like the offroad crowd carries on long explorations to parts unknown.

has been 2 months (3 k miles) since replacing all 8 front control arms, car rides very smooth,
all 8 arms were bought from ebay, total cost ~$510
sway bar links: $100 ($50 each)
labor replacement: $620
alignment at Lexus dealer: $140
total: $1370
also replaced brake rotors and pads for 4 wheels:
discs: ~$200 ($50 each)
akebono proACT pads: ~150
labor: $100
total: $450
btw: how much it cost to press in new bushings?

I don't know how much FIgs charges for the bushings plus pressing them. Rezalon posted that he paid $280 for the bushings and $350 to have a local shop in Los Angeles press them, so $630 total on the OEM control arms.

I purchased an assortment of Beck Arnley and mevotech on eBay, for around $600. So far no problems (8k miles latter). I installed them myself in my garage without air or a lift...pretty straight forward.
The control arm "issue" on the LS460 is the most overblown thing on the entire internet, there's no reason to have this done at a dealer and there's no reason to pay those astronomical prices. Now the brake actuator may be a different story, but not as many people have run into that issue, but it's out there. Hopefully there will be an aftermarket solution for that soon.

$414.50: buyautoparts.com lower control arm kit part 93-80472 K1
$350: local shop in Los Angeles to do the install.
Much better than the $1600-2300 I was quoted by the first two Lexus specialty mechanics I called. Thanks and good luck!

Heard the clunking so I got under there and sure enough the bushings were shot. Took it in to Lexus for service and had them look while at it to confirm the issue. After replacing all 8 of the front end control arms and 2 of the ball joints the clunking is still there. Seems to only do it while turning. Regardless whether giving it gas or braking.
What else should I check for? Thanks all.
