Did the Lexus LS kill the Acura RL?

FYI Acura's name's have been a disaster for sometime. They added the X "just because" since the names were all over the place. Unlike other brands where "X" signifies AWD, this is not the case with Acura.
MDX fwd, AWD option
RDX fwd, AWD option
TLX, fwd, AWD option
RLX, fwd only for now
ILX, fwd only

The vehicles are FWD standard or in the ILX case FWD only. AWD is an option like everyone else.

The Lexus LS is a better automobile and the Acura RL isn't in the same class as the LS. The Acura RL sales have always been low.

Just FYI the size of the grill on a car doesn't equate to more air being drawn into the engine. The Camry is not a performance car, and in fact it has a pretty small air intake. The grill contributes to cooling, but is for aesthetic reasons mainly, as would an air scoop in the hood be on such a car.

Here is the engine bay of a new Camry with the air intake circled, as you can see has nothing to do with the grille:
