Default Door lock when key inside the car

I have seen this topic few years ago but couldn't find it after do a search. My wife put our son in the car seat then put her gym bag (that has her key fob inside) in the backseat then close the door to go around to the driver' side. When she closed the door, somehow all the doors locked up. Something inside her bag may have hit the lock button by accident but it shouldn't be able to lock the door when the key fob is inside the cabin, am I wrong? Luckily our 3 year old son was able the unlock the door for her or else this could have been a big problem since the car was parked outside in the sun.

TIA

This happened to me before but my kids was not inside the car. However, around couple minutes the door automatic unlock it self or if you try to open the trunk it might unlock it.

The most likely cause of your bad experience is a defective door jamb switch. The door jamb switch senses when the door is opened after it is unlocked and inhibits the auto-relock feature. The auto-relock feature automatically re-locks the doors 30 seconds after they are unlocked if none or the doors are opened.

We have discussed this problem in several threads. It seems to be a common defect that is not well understood or appreciated. Not only does it put you at risk of locking your keys in your car it has several other safety related concerns. You should make a report of this incident to the NHTSA - your report might save a life.

Here are a couple links to prior discussions of this problem:

Not sure if the LS460 has two door jab switches(one for the light and one for sensing open door) but if its anything like the 430, then as long as both are open/activated then the auto-relock feature shouldnt activate imo.
