Default Cheapest Tire for LS460

Picking up on another thread, no matter what I do I am buying new tires for my 2009 LS460 every year. That being said, what might be the CHEAPEST acceptable tire. I'm not asking for an offbeat offbrand, but what would be the cheapest "normal brand" tire for our cars, since they have to be replaced often ANYWAY?

P235/50/R18 97V is what's on there now. Which I believe was the OEM size.

I love the ride, performance and longevity of these tires - not to mention the price:

These are rated slightly better, but more expensive:

You're kidding, right? Unless you're driving 50,000 miles a year, something's definitely out of whack.

Nope. About 14,000 miles per year. I guess I get about 18 months out of tires, but in MOST years that means a tire purchase (even though it might be Jan of last year and June of this year).

Good suggestions so far. I'm not there yet, but will review these when it's time. Thanks all!

Daryl, something is wrong. You should be getting much more than 14k out of your tires. I know those western PA roads aren't the greatest, but that kind of wear is ridiculous.

How/where are they wearing out, the edges, the center, cupping?

The OP says he drives 14k per year and replaces tires about every 18 months so he's getting around 21k from tires. That's certainly on the low end of the normal range for 18's on these cars. I think he's looking for a tire with a low cost per mile. As with many products, the sweet spot for value tends to be in the mid price range. The cheapest tires usually give poor life and performance. The high price tires will usually perform well but not always give the highest mileage. There is a big middle ground in 18's at around $140 to $160 where you can get the lowest cost per mile combined with decent performance.

I recommend an all season touring tire with a high wear rating. Avoid extreme high performance and directional tread. Nosing around Tire Racks website shows many good choices.
