Only had my 2011 LS sport for a little while. Has 19K miles.
Bought at 18K miles and had a pre sale inspection done at an out of town lexus dealer. Bought from private seller.
Anyway the inspection said the front brakes had 6mm on the pad and rear 8 mm. I don't have a clue if that is good or bad. But service guy said I would be ok for awhile.

Today when reversing out of the garage I heard a grinding sound when I applied the brakes.
Did not really notice it again the rest of the day. Might have been easier to hear in the garage.

Is 6 mm bad? Do I need to go ahead and take it in before next service?

Also in my paperwork I found the paper for a Lexus prepaid maintenance premium plan. Looks like this plan covers oil changes and scheduled maintenance. Its in the name of the previous owner and from out of town lexus dealer. Anyone happen to know anything about this or if its transferrable?

If the brake pad wear sensors are not tripping off and giving you a message in cluster yet then you should be fine for now.

not sure about the grinding sound, unless its the brake actuator acting up, although I thought by 2011 model yr it was no longer a problem

6mm is fine although in only 18k miles, that level of wear (about 50%) suggests the previous owner had a lead foot!

The noise could be rust on the rotors, if the car was put away wet and not driven for a couple of days. Or it could be dirt. The wear sensor shouldn't be making any noise yet and if it were, it wouldn't go away.

Contact your Lexus dealer to see if you can transfer the maintenance plan - usually these require some paperwork and a small fee (maybe $50).

Thanks everyone for the replies. Think it was just some rust. Only heard it that once. And it had been sitting in my garage for a few days. Had a lot of rain recently and car was wet last time I drove it. And garage stay damp in wet weather.
Also good to know still have a ways to go on the pads.

Yes. I've got 90,000-100,000 miles on the original brakes in all of my cars for the last 20 years. Either I'm just an old granny driver or they use much improved material nowadays. (I think, maybe, a bit of both!)
