Default 2008 ML vs 2010 non ML

Hey all,
Finally narrowing down my search for my next vehicle(coming from a ML 06 GS). I have been stuck on a ML LS, but wanted to get feedback as to the pros and cons from an audio standpoint for the 2 vehicles listed in the subject.

All things equal, I am aware of the reasoning to go with the 2010. I can add DVD, as well as beef up the stock speakers/amps if necessary. I have a JBL MS8 waiting for this very purpose should I go this route, as well as all the necessary components.

My question is, is there a noticeable difference between the 08 ML and 10 non ML that would impact purchase if that were the only consideration you were weighing? Please let me know your thoughts behind your reasoning. I know there us a thread regarding displeasure with the 12+ ML; I did not want to thread jack.

Thanks in advance.

2010 ML is not as good as 2007-2009 ML in my opinion. .I know my bass response is far better than 2010 MLs

Apparently Lexus made some changes in the ML system in 2010 which makes them less desirable than the earlier models.

Here is a recent thread -

Having moved from an '08 to a '12 the change in sound shocked me. Both cars had the ML system. Had I checked the sound on the '12 before I bought it I would have probably passed on it (I know, I know I should have checked it). The '12 LWB is mechanically sound and rides like a dream. The ML sound system though is a piece of junk.

I can't speak to the non ML systems.

I had a 2012 LS460 with ML and I currently have a 2008 600hL with ML and the 2008 sounds way better than the 2012 IMO.

As I wrote in the other post, the 2013 ML system is still rated as one of the best of all car systems by several publications, including Popular Mechanics. All things in perspective.

ML changed the amp to a new design for 2013 + I know it sounds different from the 2010 - 2012 which also has a different amp design.

Aren't there other differences between 08 and 10? I have a 2010 LWB. I don't know as much as some of the other posters, but it will state I am disappointed in the subwoofer bass. Disappointed enough that I am considering trading for a 2008 non-ML. I'm kidding. Seriously, I did install a separate amp and enclosed subwoofer.

Thanks for all of the responses guys. The main consideration for the ML system for me is that all of my music is on DVD - I am a live music/concert nut, so having the DVD capability stock with the ML is very desirable.

Before I purchased my GS (06 ML AWD) I had a 99 4Runner in which I installed 5.1 with a monitor and all that jazz. I was very interested in the GS, and when I found that it had the DVD 5.1/DTS capability stock...well it was a no brainer. I was fairly pleased with the GS's ML, but ended up installing my Boston Acoustics setup from the 4Runner and loved it. The ML lacked the volume I wanted when cruising 70mph with the windows down.

Given your responses here as well as on the other threads I have visited, I believe that I would have the same issues with the LS ML - just not enough volume. Bass response is not a concern, as I would install an aftermarket sub no matter if the vehicle was ML or not. I can build a 'better' system (Audison) to my tastes for what I would save in the cost of the vehicle, and have exactly what I want (including a DVD player).

I think/hope I have found the perfect vehicle for me; just waiting to hear back from the salesperson as to a few concerns with the maintenance history and availability. It is a non ML vehicle, but the color combo has been one I have searched for and not found in a RWD. It's been a long journey, but hopefully the end is in sight and I can properly join the LS side of this forum.

Again, thanks for all of your input and help with this and other questions I have had.
