Brembo Brakes Squeel Lexus free repair
#136
I just installed the Power Stops. 220.00 with the rotors turned and done at lexus.
I have to admit I did not appreciate the stopping power of the Brembos. I can tell a big difference.
But the squeal and less brake dust may still be worth it.

I have nearly 1000 miles on my powerstop pads....they have been totally silent (installed on 10K mile rotors from the TSB) and the dust is reduced by 80%. I will share some pics soon. Car stops the same as stock. Pads were very, very inexpensive and appear to be a great low dust replacement vs. stock.

I put powerstops Z16 on old brembo front rotors around 50K miles which were silent for a few months and then became as bad as the original pads. I resurfaced the rotors again and regreased the pads with similar results in a few weeks. Over the weekend I replaced the front rotors with centric 125 from RA for 106 each and new pads. The old stock rotors were less than 1mm to the min thickness. I was able to find the stock rotors on a lexus parts website for $77 each but decided on the high carbon centric 125's based on several people complaining on the quality of the OE. My powerstop rear pads on new lexus rotors are still quiet from the first change.

My wear sensor just went off on my 2013 F Sport. Unsure if it's the front or the rear. Stopped by my mechanic of many years and mentioned the Power Stops. He was a bit surprised that many on the forum recommended them to eliminate the F Sport squeal. Claimed that Power Stops were considered "cheap." Said they usually recommend the Akebonos or TRWs because of their acknowledged quality. Said to go with the Power Stops if others seemed to like them.
Wondering if others have had good results with Akebono or TRW on the F Sport. Thanks!

Waiting for the wear sensor is bad (for your wallet)
How many miles since the last brake change? I'll be heading to Mid Ohio again for a track day, so I'll be replacing the brakes before I do that, but I think I'm the only maniac racing a LS.
The wear sensor is self destructive with a one-time use. Although I've seen it for as cheap at $10, it is about $100 at the dealer. There are only 2 (one front, one back) and the worn ones have to be replaced with the brakes.
For the people still getting the squeaks with ceramic: Since I'm in Ohio, the cold mornings make my brakes squeak like an old UHaul truck, but as soon as I have one stop to warm them up, the squeaks go away for the rest of the day. But admittedly, in the morning, or if it's cold, there is just so much swept disc area, and the fact that ceramic anything has to warm up to work, backing out of my garage is extremely loud.

Has anyone gotten the TSB #L-SB-0009-16 done (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...93262-5448.pdf)? Has it eliminated the squeal? From my understanding they are swapping out the Brembo pad that comes with the F-Sport Package and throwing in a Toyota pad that doesn't squeal. They are also stating that is may reduce stopping power, this seems ridiculous that their fix is to throw in some inferior parts instead of matching the performance and getting Brembo to reformulate the pad and eliminate the squeal. I have seen post where people are dropping $1,xxx's in replacing pads and rotors, that seems crazy to me. The car's MSRP is $90,000+, how is this not Lexus's responsibility? I bought this LS460 a couple of weeks ago and she is squealing like a SOB- not a good start.
